Here's a folder I'm really excited to show off. This is one of Randy's first framelocks. It's his WatchDog model.
I met Randy at the Canadian Knife Guild show in Toronto at the beginning of this year. I really liked his work, he was great guy to talk to and I spent 5-10mins playing with his Bully folder (a sweet folder).
3 1/2 (3 1/4 edge) S30V tanto 3/16 (.187) stock. Deep grinds and a deep swedge on the top of the blade. You'll notice the swedge tapers down to the back of the blade, the tip holding wider stock than the back. When you look at the tip dead on it is ground in a diamond shape. Notched thumb rest. Tip is polished.
Titanium frame, 1/8 (.125) stock 4 1/4 long. Rounded edges, drilled front scale.
Titanium double thumb studs.
Titanium clip, drilled.
3 backposts, not sure if Ti or greyed/blasted SS
This is a light folder. Randy's grinds removed alot of the blade stock certainly helping the weight and giving this knife excellent balance. The slightly rounded Ti frame edges make this knife very comfortable. There are no sharp handle edges. This opens fast and smooth and locks up solid. There is no play in the blade in any position and blade centering is perfect. Though the lock up is solid it is easy to disengage. The best of both!!! I have had a number of framelocks lock up tight but then be difficult to disengage. Randy obviously took the time to tune the lock-up.
The fit and finish on this knife is excellent. This knife has confirmed the good feel I had of Randy's work at the show. It is awesome and I would recommend his work to anyone.
