We have this radio station in Detroit They call themselves DOUG FM (not their call letters) Their an automated radio station, no DJ's to tell you the tale of Sid Barret everytime Wish you were here is played.

Their Gimick is "We play everything" And they do,(they don't play the curent top 40 or 100, just older music), I have heard Brick house right after Sweet child of mine. And I'm cool with that. My question is If they play everything, How does Huey Lewis come up so often in the rotation? They only made a couple albums. I can understand Chicago, they made a ton of albums, But Huey Lewis and the News? They had like maybe 6 songs played during the 2 weeks they were popular.

Weird... we have a similar station in Atlanta callled "Dave FM".

Probably the same station, Automated stations are idealy suited to this sort of thing. You own a station in a dozen markets and play the same music at all of them. The same way Rush Limbaugh is on 600 stations.

Whoever's the program director for "Doug" or "Jack" or "Dave" FM is obviously a big Huey Lewis fan. We had the same problem with an FM station here in the Northeast that played Rush songs way out of proportion to their actual popularity.

Homer FM is doing all the programming. Be happy he's not in a Tom Jones mood.

Well, we got "Jack FM" here in Chicago. Same story, probably owned by the same group. They annoy the crap out of me. I cannot stand the music they play, nor their condescending "we play what we want, don't ask for requests" motto that they seem so proud of. A sure sign of the apocalypse (sp?) if you ask me if this is where radio is headed.

Gadzooks, he looks like he's been barbecued!

they got something similar in Boston, play alot of Huey too.

It's not really everything, it's everything mid to late seventies through mide to late eighties adult contemporary.

ROFLMFAO!!!!! :D :D :D

(reminds me of that 'Seinfeld' episode where Kramer 'bastes' himself with butter and falls asleep in the broiling sun on the roof of their apartment building.)

Speaking of Tom Jones, I always figured he was, well, just Tom Jones. I saw him on one part of the 7 part PBS broadcast, "The Blues". Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Tom, and others were playing and talking about the early sixties British blues. Now I see Tom in a whole different light. A real character.

Hey Guys..

I LoveToolSteel..

I live in near windsor just over the ditch and we got Dick All FM !! :)

I listen to Doug all the time,, but nothing beats Drew and Mike in the Mornings WRIF Rocks.... Baby!

ttyle

Eric...

Apparently when Tom Jones plays a concert in Toronto, he goes to a local bar afterwards and just hangs out. Has a few bevvies (well, several) and plays piano and sings until they close the place!

We have one here: "BOB FM". I used to work for the predecessor station. It's a spinoff of the AAA Format- generally appealing to a crossover demographic- these stations are usually programmed by a national P.D.... It's stuff we all grew up with all shoved in together w/out context. It's a nostalgia soup. Radio Regenbogen (Rainbow) in Mannheim, Germany ran a similar format in the early 90's- but more extreme segues. Black Sabbath/Dolly Parton would be entirely possible.

"Jack FM" here in KC MO. That one disappeared from my car radio pre-sets in the first week it operated. Jack was a replacement for a decent rock station that played what I liked.:( :grumpy: :(

I don't think we have a Doug FM (or Dave FM or Homer FM). But I do remember this episode...:D

They just played: Turning Japanese by the Vapors
Now they are playing: That's the way I like it By K.C. and the Sunshine Band

The Baltimore, Maryland area used to have a morning cast of real characters who gave traffic info, weather, news, sports, and "jokes of the day." Really enjoyable to listen to on the morning drive to work.

Now we've got Jack FM which is nothing more than computerized music selections.

Yep, here in Albuquerque, we've got Ed FM. Same old story; sometimes they play fun, less-known tracks. Other times, though, it's weird or excessively repetitive.
