Doug Ritter MK4...Your Thoughts?

Welcome to Blade Forums!

I don't have that particular one, but every knife I have that Doug Ritter was involved with has been great!

It's not doing anything for me. But I like the other Ritter knives.

I'm not a fan of recurves and the handle has too much drop for my preferences. I've always wanted to try the Paul Lock though.

Welcome to BF. Try to handle that knife before you buy it. Some knives just feel and work better in your hand than others. Have fun and post what you get.

I bought one of these when they first came out. It was really a neat little knife.:) I personaly liked the beefy recurve on the knife blade. I wish more small folders had wide blades like this instead of the narrow Warncliff style.

The Paul lock was pretty facinating. Once you got the hang of it, you could open and close it pretty fast-one handed. Not as efficient as an Axis though, because you had to adjust your grip a little once it was open. Still, it was one of those mechanisms that was really addictive.

This was a really handsome little knife. The button lock was totaly cool and unique.

After about a week of practice opening/closing, the blade developed play, both side to side as well as up and down. Not very much mind you, but it was there. I had never even cut anything with it. It didn't look like there was a way to tighten the Paul Axial lock. I think it is a fixed system.

I have heard about quality control issues with Lone Wolf, maybe this was the problem. Maybe the Paul Axial design is flawed. Maybe I got a bad one. I don't know. There were a couple other guys on this forum that said they had similar problems with the Paul Axial system, they didn't have the Ritter model though.

SO,
I returned it. :grumpy:

Too bad. I have other Ritters and they have been great knives. Of course Benchmade makes them. I hope Doug doesn't get burned on this one because he has some good design ideas. The vendor for Ritter knives is top notch too.

I haven't heard any other feedback from othe Mk4 owners so maybe they're good knives. Let us know if you get one.

My Mk4 has not developed any looseness like described above.

Its a beautiful knife and clearly related to its siblings in blade shape and quality. The lock takes some getting used to. I'm honestly not sure that its any better/faster/easier than the axis lock.

Your first take will be that it is a fairly small knife - noticably smaller than the mini Rittergrip.
