Looking for a new edc blade. Opinions on whether or not I should spend more money and go with the Ritter model, or if i should just stick with the orginal benchmade. Also any opinions of m390 blade steel??

Go with the Ritter. Handles are the same but it's the high flat ground M390 blade that makes the big difference. For more than a year I've been using '390 steel for EDC uses, and it holds a great edge that lasts a long time between sharpening.

+1.....while I do not have the Ritter in 390, I'm still stuck with the antiquated S30v model, the blade shape is outstanding.

For what a basic mini grip costs now, the Ritter mini is even a better value now. You can sometimes find barely used S30V models on here for around $100. Hard to beat.

I also recommend the Ritter over the standard because of the blade profile and grind. Personally, I like M390 as a daily user for all around cutting chores. That's a stretch for me because I'm the one that's usually married to old school steels like 1095, D2, 52100, 154CM, etc. But M390 has performed well in the 9 months or so that I've been using it. It sharpens up easily, holds an edge better than some of the steels I mentioned above, and is reasonably tough and corrosion resistant.

My uses are from house & yard to warehouse to hiking / light camping (no long-distance hiking or backpacking). Most of my cutting is slicing through natural and man-made materials. I don't use my knives for cooking and I don't like very fine, polished edges. Toothy works better for my cutting.

I also don't take a lot of care of my blades. I wipe them off when they get wet and keep them sharp, but I don't baby them anymore with a lot of oils and rub downs and other coddling. If they survive me, great. If they don't, tough. I've got anther knife in the chest just waiting to be carried and used. M390 has held up to "me" very well so far and works well with the kind of edge I like on my users.

You guys.... I was looking at the orange mini last night and was about to pull the trigger and had to step away for a minute to take a phone call and attend to my son. I am close, oh so very close.... :)

I have the mini with M390 with Wilkins grips on it. It is a pleasure to carry and sees the most pocket time. Just get it! :D

Dang it...nice arm twisting you guys.....
:D
I'm going to get it when Inget home from work......

I think the only aftermarket grips I would consider are the Wilkins. I already have a full sized Ritter in S30V, it's one of my favorites. I should say the Grip series in general is one of my favorite from Benchmade. The mini grip is one of the only smaller knives I would ever carry and use. I'll be posting some pics as soon as it comes in, along with my other Grip series. I'm excited to use it. :)

I really need to try a set of Wilkins. They get great reviews and look really cool. I'm probably in the minority, but in all honesty I am perfectly happy with the factory scales...

Ya know ... I got a set of natural canvas Micarta scales for a Mini Ritter 390 I gave as a Xmas gift but they still haven't put them on. They just like it the way it is.

(well ... uh ... ya could just give those scales back ... I mean ... my bday is coming up soon ... just sayin)

Look up a user named Boomer52 and take a look at the scales he does.

I haven't seen his scales. I will have to take a look too...

ETA: I just went and quickly looked at his work. Looks like he does a nice job, and looking at his profile I found out he only lives 20 miles from me :D
