I tried to find a search feature but had to luck.

I was wondering if anyone has this blade and what you think of it? I was thinking about getting it for a tough fixed blade that could be used without having to worry about blade getting dull fast and can take on many cutting tasks. I don't plan to chop wood with it or dig a trench but a good survival knife or survival, however you want to look at it. If it will be a good daily knife then it will be used for that also. I don't really want to pay $350 for a blade if I don't have to. This one has a price I can stomach and not cry to use it.

If you have a suggestion on something better PLEASE tell me. I have a Busse Combat Active Duty now and I like it but I think I want a little flatter grind on next knife.

It sells for $165
Blade Material is S30V Stainless
4.5" Blade Length

You can see the specs and such here

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

I moved this from Custom & Handmade Knives to the General Knife Discussion, since it's a production knife.

It's also a very good knife. I'd buy one myself if it didn't overlap so many others that I've got already. It's made by Benchmade, as reliable a manufacturer as you'll find. It was designed by Doug Ritter as a fixed blade variant of the wildly successful Benchmade Griptilian folders.

I think it only sells through Doug Ritter's site, so you have to pay his price, but it's not outrageous, and it is a good knife for what you describe.

If you want to do a bit of research before settling on a knife in that category, check out our Wilderness & Survival Skills forum at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=692 where we talk about them a lot.

I gave this knife a major workout while writing the review for Tactical Knives. I was happy enough to make it one of my "go-to" knives. It's a great general utility knife and I would not worry if this was the only knife I had in times of need.

Is Tactical Knives a magazine or a web site? If its a web site I would be interested in seeing a link to check out your handy work with this blade.

I just started looking at a hand made that cost just a little more with a hand made Kydex sheath with it that was getting some good reviews. No idea how they would compare. It is a J. Kneilson B.U.K. if anyone is familiar.

I am fairly ignorant about knives and all the metals and materials in handles. I like the custom because it is supporting a single man than a company.

Tactical Knives is a magazine, and quite a nifty one at that. Give it a look!

I have a Doug Ritter RSK Mk1 and absolutely love it...I'm certain the the Mk3 would perform to equal or greater standards, as its blade is slightly larger and it is a fixed knife. The only thing that I didn't like was the style of the sheath, which I have examined thoroughly in pictures, but only once or twice in person. I would probably replace it with something like Spec-Ops Brand Survival sheath, or a Kydex rig by River City. Nonetheless, it's no doubt a great knife.

I had one for a while. I wasn't overly impressed. It just didn't seem better than my F1, which IMO is ergonomically superior (for my hand anyway), and cheaper to boot.

Right here:

Now at first glance you might think,"WTH is this?" Just scroll down a bit and look at the left hand side and you'll see the area under Survival Gear.

It's a great knife and company. I used FedEx overnight and got my RSK MK1 within 22 hours

One of the guys even called me 10 minutes after I made my order and verified any and all questions that I had.

Picked one up this summer for a 7 day fly-in fishing trip. It did every thing asked, including filet of many walleye and few pike. It served three of us. Nothing outrageous or real survival, it simply worked. No regrets, would buy again.

I made my own Kydex as I just could not make the supplied one work for me.

I've had a MK3 for a few months and I like it. It is not as thick as some others like my Busse's, Swamp Rats and K9 Dingos but it is considerably lighter which is a bonus when hiking or camping. It is a good all around fixed blade and the price isn't too bad. I also have the Mk1 folder and it has become one of my favorite folders along wiht my CRK Sebenzas and Spyderco Miltaries. I don't care for the sheatht that came with the Mk3 and will proably have a Kydex sheath made for it sometime. (These remarks are just my humble opinion and do not represent any facts, but facts don't usually outweigh opinions anyway)

I like mine a lot. I wish more makers would offer this blade shape.

I didn’t like the sheath, but I don’t care for MOLLE style sheaths of any kind, with any knife. Just too much crap. All I want is something to cover the blade and leave the handle readilly accessible. Straps, snaps, flaps and cords get really annoying.

I had a kydex sheath made for it and now I can simply grab the handle and pop it out one handed without any fumbling.

I have good kydex sheaths for all my knives.

This is really a solid little big knife. It has a very ergonomic handle. It is light enough to always carry, and plenty tough enough for bushcraft and survival work. With a kydex sheath, the knife is just small enough to use as a neck knife if you want to, which is a pretty good way to carry in a survival situation.

Being S30V, it keeps an edge very well and is almost maintenance free.

Aeromedix is a great company to deal with, excellent customer service.
Doug Ritter knows his stuff and this knife works really well.

No disappointments with this one.

Of all the other fixed blades this size I own, only my Fallknivens are comparable in overall workmanship and useable design.

I have a TK1 that has a similar blade length and I really like it. Those Vikings have a unique way with blades, it’s hard to describe, but they’re great. The TK1 is the ultimate Mora knife. Scalpel precision, yet tough as heck.

If I had to decide between these two knives I don’t know which one I would choose. They’re both so good, but different.

I have a RAT in a similar size also. These are fine knives for the price, but seem rather crude when compared to the Ritter/Benchmade and Fallknivens. For me, the blade shape, grind and design is not as useful as the drop point or Mora style.

I have a Fehrman Last Chance as well, so I understand your desire for a smaller more nimble blade.

If it's anywhere near the quality of the folders, it's gotta be a winner!

I've kinda been planning to get one myself soon.
