best cheap survival folder ever , in my opinion
the best cheap knife i ever had, is a french douk douk, the medium/normal size
it has a blade of almost 10 cm, carbon steel (it says x75 on the site, i guess is 1075 carbon steel)
this is one tough son of a bitch
ive used this knife for 2 years now, and i got to say it, its the best workhorse pocket knife that i ever holded in my hand
of course i have other knives, spydercos, cold steel's, crkt, and some other cheepos not worthmentioning, but this knife, i tell you, is the one ive abused most.
it has a kind of needle thin point, that ive tested by stabbing into a coin, and it survivedwith no damage to the tip
the blade its flexible, not for prying
,but does flex a great deal without breaking,
it has no lock, but a strong backspring that does the job of keeping it closed or opened
you have to use two hands to open it, but with practice, it can be opened with one hand, if you press the base on something like a wall, or ground, anything, and pull the blade,or if you atach a small paracord, you can hold that with your teeth and pull the blade
the body is all metal, so its much more durable than a french opinel, also the blade is muchmore thicker.
also, it is very very slim, you can keep it in your wallet.
it is said that this knife is a secret, by having a very strong carbon steel blade, and a low price for that quality.
if you do a search on the net, there are some stories about it, as the knife of the french foreign legion, national knife of algeria, war relic, it was forbidden at one time in the past
because it was used to cut the throuts of many french soldiers ( thats how it became the tactical knife of the legion)...and so on
i would like to see Noss do some tests on this knife....keeping in mind its a folder, not afixed blade....
i would say about the douk douk that is the best survival folder to keep in any survival kit,or to have in the woods.
fred perrin has also good things to say about it, he mentions also that it can be easily turned into a fixed blade by bending the handle next to the end of blade.
so, what do you knife people have to say about this little knife ?
