douk-douks - ever heard of them?

The Douk-Douk was not make famous by the french foreign legion. It was a civilian knife sold everywhere but also in Africa. That knife was banned for some time in North-Africa because the muslim terrorists from the FLN use it to kill people.

I picked up a large stainless Douk-Douk, and I think I'll get Laci's Giant carbon steel version, too, and the Tiki. I was surprised at how sharp it is. It will slice cleanly through a soft roll or a soft tomato. If you slice an onion with it, you'll cry less than with a duller knife, because the sharp edge doesn't bruise the onion as it goes through, pressing out juice. The tip is distally tapered and the thin blade is fully flat ground. There is hardly anything to interfere with the edge slicing between molecules! :D

That other cheap French knife, the Opinel, is similarly effective. But the Douk-Douk is cool! The Germans have a knife made like the Dou-Douk, the Mercator Cat. I had a Cat over 40 years ago.
