And here's one more. 3 1/2 swayback. Thanks for the looks. Just got pictures of this one this evening. This one is sold, just wanted to post the ivory. I really thought it was nice.

Nice....

Something looks different though....the nail nick or swedge in that area looks different than others you've done. Am I just seeing things?

Nail nick is the same, the swegde is a little deeper than most. Maybe thats what your seeing.

I think you're right. The scales on this one look great....I like the "little bit of light and little bit of dark."

How does the other side look?

That's a beauty. It's unusual to see such a pronounced swedge on a Swayback, but I really like the look. It also has a more rounded spine at the head, and I'll bet that's an ergonomic improvement over the smaller radius you usually see, as the latter can dig into your palm in some grip positions.

Nice work!

Great looking scales. The swedge on a wharncliffe is a very nice touch. I now have to carry my swayback tomorrow.

That's a sweet lookin knife there Bret.:thumbup::cool:

My Dowell swayback arrived in the mail today. After I finished with my errands this morning I came home to see a small USPS box on the dining room table with my name on it. I knew immediately what it was. After I slit the box open I was greeted by an exquisite example of the cutler's art.

As you can see this knife is quite stunning. Everything, from the wharncliffe blade, to the mammoth ivory scales, the grooved bolsters, and mirror polished shield comes together beautifully. Fit and finish on this knife is first rate. It'll take some willpower to move this knife out of the safe and into my pocket.

Wow that's a great looking little knife! I love the Swayback pattern and you've done a great job executing it.

Exceptional color on that Mammoth :thumbup: Congrats :thumbup:. Bret is doing some outstanding work :thumbup:

Thanks for the compliments guys. Bret and I both appreciate it. One of the nice things about commissioning a custom slipjoint is the give-and-take between the customer and the maker. Let's you feel that you played a part in creating the knife, even if the maker is the one doing all the work.

:D

Looks like he did a mighty fine job with that one...enjoy :D
