Down sized my blade “cost risk” of theft in my car by taking out my nice Cold Steel Vaquero Grande:D a $75 type of knife. I replaced it with a new $17.88 Cold Steel War Head:thumbup: from SMKW. I hate to leave expensive things in vehicles.

Congratulations! (if I look around carefully i may have a cookie somewhere for you)

Why are you leaving expensive knives in the car? And a thief isn't going to know the difference between a Sebenza and a $2.50 gas station knife... both are just as likely to be stolen.

If you need a knife in a car, hide it well. If you don't need a knife in the car, don't keep a knife in the car.

I don't leave anything of value in my car, even at home. My car is a high risk for theives just because of what it is (Subaru Impreza), so I don't tempt fate any farther by leaving valuable stuff in it. Aside from the Alpine head unit, the most expensive thing in my car is a 4D Maglite.

yeah but if you hide a knife and for some reason a cop does search and find it you are in trouble.

I keep a Busse FFBM in my car, well hidden of course. Your car knife should be one of the best knives you own, because there's a good likelihood you may really NEED it someday. A high quality knife at home in the safe is totally useless if you're out in the middle of nowhere and you suddenly need a high performance blade.

Since when is it illegal to carry a knife in the car? If you drive a truck, keep it in the lockbox in back, or behind the seat. If you drive a car, keep it in the trunk. You can carry any knife you want, pretty much anywhere in the US, as long as it's not "readily accessible" to the driver. You can carry a broadsword around with you if you want, as far as I know- so long as you don't keep it within arm's reach. I've had a cop find my Battle Mistress before, and he just admired it- thought it was cool.

I talked to my car and it felt it didn't need a knife, if threatened it would just run over it's attacker.

In all seriousness I don't advocate leaving any weapon in an unattended vehicle. Why take a chance on arming someone...so next they can mug a person instead of a car? Why not just carry the knife on your person?

I leave the big knife in my car, so I don't have to carry it on my person. It's in a locked trunk though, so I don't worry about it much. Any person who is inclined to mug somebody is going to do it, with or without whatever happens to be in my trunk. It's not like it's hard to find a knife to mug somebody with. Or a bat, brick, crowbar etc. What somebody might do with something they steal out of my car has nothing to do with me. Except for a gun, of course. Guns are a little different.

If I removed everything in my car that could be used as a weapon I wouldnt have tools, a flashlight, jumper cables, tire iron, jack, etc...the same reason I dont remove the landscaping bricks from my front yard.

Where theres a will...

I've found that every time I'm in one of my vehicles, there's always a knife in it!

i have a harpy cliped to my sun visor and a ranger rd7 under the back seat and a few other ones. But no on can see in my truck anyways. :D

Got a copy of a swiss army knife for Christmas, sharpened the blade and it is the car knife. If stolen I am out about $3.99.

I did sort of the same thing but on a different scale. I own Busse knives and such and am not gonna just leave them in my truck. No matter how well you hide it a theif is gonna be able to find it in a truck... now a car with a trunk... different story... theives usually don't mess with the trunk cause it takes too long. So I picked up a Spec Plus Marine Raider Bowie for $30.00 and a Spyderco Temperance for cheap and I leave those in my truck. If the get stolen... of course I'll be sad... but it wouldn't be like losing $1,000.00 worth of two Busse Knives... I take my Busses when I know I'm going to use them... but for emergency "better than nothing knives" I keep chepies in the truck. And though they aren't super knives...the work pretty good. Good enough to justify them being around.

when you start changing the way you'd like to live because of the actions of others... You've already let the bad guys win. It isn't your fault if someone steals your knife and uses it to do harm. The only thing you're guilty of is keeping a knife in your car. And in most states... that's not a crime. Not having a knife in your car when you want to for fear that someone else will take it and do bad things is kind of the same logic that allows a theif to sue you should they slip and fall in your house while they rob you. Next they'll be able to take you to court for mental stress if you should happen to chase them off with a gun or call the police. I think Thomas Jefferson said those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither.

I don't leave a knife in the car, but I've got a CS SF Shovel in there at all times... a shovel is probably going to be a lot less tempting to potential thieves, and less likely to alarm overzealous LEO's. Came in very handy for chopping up a maple limb that fell on a relative's neighbour's parking lot once. Got some puzzled looks from an elderly passer-by though. :D
