I believe I read somewhere that Down Under knives are made in mainland China (ugh!). So, not to rain on your parade if you really want one of their knives, but I'd go elsewhere because of (1) political reasons and (2) potential quality issues. Down Under is one of those companies that does not indicate what the country of origin is on their knives. Would you feel comfortable buying from a company that does not state that info? Ask yourself why they would not divulge that info. I know that a good large production bowie that's not made in China can be a little difficult to find. Last I checked, just about everything made in China was still garbage. Check out Cold Steel's Trailmaster, Laredo and Natchez bowies (carbon steel versions made in Taiwan and San Mai versions made in Japan).
Cold Steel's carbon steel bowies are comparably priced or probably less expensive than the Down Under Mistress. I'd go with the Cold Steel. They're excellent value.
Refreshing my recollection about the Down Under knives, I see that they're all 440C. Would you trust a large bowie made out of 440C? I wouldn't. It's probably just a wallhanger, IMO.
