Hi Guys,
Downeast Knife Company is something my friend, fellow knifemaker Lamont Coombs, and I decided to do late last fall. Being friends, neighbors, and both knifemakers, it made sense to do a collaboration project together. Our First offering is the DK Companion. They've been all over the Maker's Gallery and For Sale sections lately. You can read all about the project and us here: www.downeastknife.com.

We've been promising some action shots for a while now, and its time to deliver. Here's the first of many to come. When I saw my wife starting to make our lunch today, I took out my personal DK Companion and asked her to give it a try. The kitchen is one place where a knife gets used extensively. Though not designed primarily as a kitchen knife, we wanted to see how ours performed.

Here's some pics, then I'll tell you what she thought of it.

I just love seeing our knives get used!

Here's what she had to say:
VERY SHARP!
Slices very well, little resistance.
Nice thick grip. Easy to hold on to and not slippery (grips are bead blasted canvas Micarta)
A little heavy (to use as a paring knife).
Could be longer for larger slicing jobs.
Thumb ramp was very useful. Not too hard on the fingers either.

Well, she has a full set of custom kitchen knives that I made her a few years ago. She has one in every shape and size, so she's a little spoiled in that department!

Thanks for looking. Stay tuned for some outdoor shots soon. In addition, we sent one of these to a good friend of ours. He a Master Maine Guide, and owns his own Guide Service. He says he intends to give his a full workout, and send us a full review to include pics.

Stay tuned.

Nice review Scott! I'm glad she gave it the seal of approval! ;)

I look forward to more!

Thanks Mike. The next one will be a little more dynamic. It was a quiet Sunday, and I wasn't up for boonie-stompin today...
