Just got my copy of AG's December catalog in the mail. Looks like AG has commissioned Bob to make a flat ground hunter, the Teton Skinner--3 3/4" D2 (60-61 RC)flat ground blade. New production process evidentally allows a 35% production rate increse.
Looks great! Micarta and Ironwood handle choices. I'm drooling:)

While I'm a big fan of Bob's knives, these don't qualify as "custom knives" from Bob's shop so this is being moved to the general discussion area. (This is certainly no knock on their quality as I know that Bob won't put his name on anything that doesn't meet his exacting standards.)

They do look very good. The catalog mentions a tactical knife and a personal knife to be released later. I can't wait to see what these look like.

They look really nice and I'm sure it is with Bob and AG Russell working together....but I don't think I would pay $175 for one when I can get a handmade one for that much. I guess if you really don't want to have to wait the 3 months that it may take to get a handmade Dozier then it would be worth it. Otherwise, I'd prefer to wait and get the true handmade Dozier. If this knife had come in priced $50 or so less then the handmade version it would have been a great deal, but at this price I'll go handmade. I hope for Bob and AG Russell that they sell well though.

A.G. Russell has a great reputation and has great looking knives in his catalog. Bob Dozier is top of the line in my book and great to deal with. The Dozier knives in the A.G. Russell catalog look great and I'm sure are great knives. However, I'm willing to wait 3-5 months and pay the price to have a knife custom made by a great maker(Bob Dozier)and I prefer it that way. Collaborations seem to be the way to go but I'm glad I can still get my knives from the maker. Again, I'm sure these are great knives and real beauties but for the money I'll take mine straight from Bob.

Dozier mades are top notch working knives, bar none. Keep in mind that although the prices for AGs models and Bobs models are almost the same, many of the models that AG carries are made exclusive to him. A good axample (but a handmade) is the New York Special in the kydex shoulder rig. So if you are looking for something a bit different from Bobs common models, the Doziers offered through AG may do it for you.

I also believe that Bob's custom knives will shortly be going up in price. So A.G.'s pricing may be just right in the future.

A.G.'s knives may also be right up your alley, if you happen to like flat grinds. I don't think I've ever seen a Dozier custom with a flat grind.

Buzz,

How quickly you forgot my flat ground/ironwood prototype from Bob.
I'm shocked. ;)
