On pg 54 of the October '03 Blade magazine, there are a couple pictures of Bob Dozier "Classics".

No mention of them here, or on his web page.

Anyone have any details?

Michael:

Bob does some knives that are not in his catalog. This is one.
A.G. Russell currently lists one of these in African Blackwood
but I don't think they are in stock.

Call 888-823-0023 and talk to Linda. She can give you any
info. you need.

AG Russell and Bob Dozier got together to extract some value out of Bob's investment in a stash of stag, after stag got scarce, and they did a run of 100 knives in stag ... oh, maybe 1.5 years ago or so. These ran 4.5" of blade length, drop points. (that sounded negative, but Dozier certainly SHOULD recapture his investment, his tied up working capital in stag, and why not when prices are up?).

I think that initial stash of stag is probably gone, but you can still get one in ebony.

I wanted one in stag, but not at 4.5" and not with the (less expensive) leather sheath they had built for the run... so I asked Linda to have Bob build me one at only 4" and with his kydex sheath. I was quite surprised when I saw the price adders... I think the sheaths were already purchased or something, so no credit towards the kydex @ $50, and the shorter blade (indeed, a minor customization if you are geared up for a batch of 4.5" blades, but I was surprised) cost me I think $25 or $35 extra. (Postscript: the results were quite satisfying... a keeper).

Point: you can have Bob build one to your specs as long as you either aren't picky about stag quality, or you want another handle material.

Here's a pic in more of a skinner profile (shaped closely to his K2 General Purpose Hunting Knife)...for sale here:

There is a drop point up for grabs at AZCK now:

I've also attached a pic of a nice stag w/ clipped point.

Wow I _really_ like that clipped hunter.

Yeah, your 2 subsequent links are closer to what's in the add.

The add looks like a drop-point, or slightly-clipped point with a single guard and stacked-leather handle.

With a little bit of a "beak" on the butt. VERY nice. All the features I like, and together in a single knife. Wow!

Hope "Blade" doesn't mind -- here's a scan of the add.

If you can describe what you want in a knife the chances are that Bob Dozier can make it. Call up and talk with Linda. They are great to work with and the results are always amazing!

We do still have some premium stag and do custom clasics. The Classics are a style of knife, more than a certain knife. We now make four blades that are standard. I particulary like making these knifes and you can call linda about them. Really honest knives.

I've seen these at the NY shows and they always made me drool. At the last one Bob had on display one where he cut the knife down the middle length wise so you can see the cross section of how the tang was imbedded in the handle. Amazing work.
