Any chance of a KaBar Dozier coming out with a steel other than AUS8? Looking more for folders. Something more along the lines of Doziers folders, not just the Phat Bob.

Thanks.

What did you have in mind? For steel that is? They did a LE Phatty in D2, but that was a commissioned run.

I had a Phat Bob but traded it. The liner lock bit into my thumb and palm when I closed it. I really like the AG Russell collaboration, but would prefer to see something similar from KaBar with a different steel. Correct me if I am wrong, but did Kabar's Taiwan maker make the AG Russell collaboration?

That I will have to check on, but my first kneejerk response to that is yes.

AG does it kinda different, though. He's one of those ones that will have a specific knife made just for him to sell.

Lemme check, and what kinda steel did you have in mind? Kabar listens to the folks that buy the stuff.

I'd be all over some regular Dozier's in D2. D2 might price them too high though, for people interested in the value of the Dozier line.

Since they are done overseas, maybe the 1085 carbon that's used in the fixed blade line like the Zombie and Cutlass/Kukri.

Heck, I'd like some in good old 1095CV, coated or not, doesn't matter to me.

The only similar style knife I can find in carbon steel at a decent price is the Moore Maker Roper in 1095 at 56+ RC.

I'd rather send the $40 to Kabar myself.

Agreed on the 1095cv, I would be into that.

Also, I would LOVE a dozier that is in between the two sizes they have now. There is almost nothing out there in the 2.5-2.7in blade length category, and if they made a dozier in that size, with 1095cv, I'd probably already own it.

Well, OKB will see this, and I'll talk to them from my end, who knows, ya'll may be onto something here.

Good post SHS.

440C would be fine with me, 1095 is fine for fixed blades. Lots of good affordable steels out there.

AUS8 is a good steel, but, I admit I am a recovering steel snob.

A Dozier Folder in 440C or 154CM (two of my favorite steels) would be cool, even if it doubled the price. It would still be a good deal.

But...with that said I have 5 Dozier Folders (with 2 more on the way) and find the AUS8 blade a solid performer.

I feel that KA-BAR's aus-8 is more than adequete however I would really like to see the Dozier folding hunters in a premium blade steel like S30V or D2 but I don't know what the availabilty of these steels is like in Taiwan but if Spyderco can make Taiwan made knives with above average blade steel I'd imagine KA-BAR could manage to do it some how also.

One of my favorite folders is the Spyderco Bob T slipit. Very high quality steel, scales etc. It can be done.

Ok, so here is what I think, we check to see if they can do a D2 version of the Dozier folders, I think it might be doable, but we'll see what KA-BAR says.

D2 is great stuff, but difficult to sharpen. I've found AUS8, at least in my CS Voyagers, to be a a tough, excellent, fine-grained steel -- it has a bit of vanadium, and holds an excellent edge while being quite easy to sharpen on diamond hones. IMHO it's under-rated.

I wouldn't say underated, but in the day and age of "super steels", most good quality "non exotic" steel's value is cast to the side, for some new, shiny, super ninja steel. Its all good in my mind, as long as they cut.

D2 goes with Bob Dozier like PB and Jelly. It seems like its always been there. I think a flash run of D2 Dozier folders, is just what the knife doctor prescribed.

I called Kabar this morning and talked with OKB, he says he will bring it up. Who knows.

I don't think so. I'm not much of a help here. sorries.

I'm really digging KA-BAR's willingness to work with customers and create a more desirable and creative product, I can forsee some more KA-BAR products in my future, keep up the good work:thumbup:.

Thank you Moose. I have a love hate relationship with D2 that I really need to get over. If I can put a good edge on S30V, I should be able to do more than get a mediocre edge with D2. My EDC has a D2 blade, a Queen Burke small barlow. I have a Dozier bushcraft on order, with flat ground blade. Jeez, I really need to get over D2 ;).

As many have said, Bob Dozier and D2 just go together.

Just got a Dozier folder a week or so ago, and I love it. I've got no qualms about AUS8, but I would definitely fork out a bit extra for one of these things in a premium version. I would love to see G10 scales (Zytel is people...I mean plastic) ... S30V or D2 blade. I would buy one in Orange and black...

I was thinking... instead of (or in addition to) different blade steels, how about different handle colors or materials? Linerless G-10 in a few colors, or the normal FRN in yellow, blue, red, etc. without the black blades. I'd love to see a polished 4062 blade on a linerless blue G-10 handle with polished pocket clip.
