Im thinking about purchasing a Dozier folding hunter. I have several of his fixed blades and enjoy them very much. Very tough and very very sharp.(Gotta love that D2) Anyone here own one that can tell me about fit, finish, etc. Also looking for comparisions to other custom/semi-customs.Are these worth the bucks/
Thanks to all that reply!

I have a couple and the fit and finish is excellent on both. The actions are very smooth and the lock-ups are solid. I can't really compare them to other customs because I don't own any, but I can say that I'm very happy with my Doziers.

Thanks for the input! Purchased one here on the forum today..will post my thoughts when it arrives.

i've had one since 2002 and absolutely love it . Fit and finish are great. Edge holding of D2 is excellent. overall I would recommend this knife for everyday carry.

They are great! I have had a couple of them. Two of them have had a problem with the locking liner. The knives where new but the spring effect was to weak and after some weeks they got vertical side play. Mr Dozier made them good again:)

Bob's folders are very good knives. Lock up is very good. I have a few "custom" folding knives that fail the "spine whack" test -Bob's passes.

I have one of his folders that I bought about 6 years ago and as stated above, the fit and finish was excellent. Holds a good edge.

Received my folder in the mail today! This thing is all its said to be. Initial impression : Fit and finish are dead on. Blade is razor sharp. Very lightweight. The handles are a maroon/burgandy color and wasnt sure I would really like them, but they really look great. Knife fits and rides well in the pocket. Pocket clip is not in the way like it can be on some knives. Im very pleased. I should have gotten one a long time ago.
In comparing it with some of my other customs: Much lighter than my small Sebenza but about the same size in the pocket. Doesnt have the "warrior knife" look of my Striders or my XM-18. A "Sunday go to meetin" knife I guess you could say.
This is the 4th Dozier I have owned (Striaght Personal, New York Special, Parking Lot Knife which is my favorite) and quality is no different. I use all my knives ( at one time or another) so it will be no safe queen. Let you guys know how it performs in the future. Thanks for reading my ramblings and for all your input.

Randy,

Glad you like the knife. When I let a knife go it's nice to know the receiver really appreciates it as a fine piece of craftmanship and a tool. Enjoy.

Just a little follow up...Folder cuts anything and everything with no problem. I have not cut anything super tough, but it has handled all chores just fine. Knife still as sharp as day I recieved it. Have found a slight dislike. The top of the knife on the pivot side has alot of sharp edges. The jimping for the blade is very sharp also. If I am wearing cargo pants (5:11 brand for example) and reach into the pocket, the top of the folder kinda chews up my hand. Dont notice as bad with jeans that are a little tighter in the pockets. I could round the edges, but cant bring myself to start modding a custom folder like this. Anyone else with sharp edge issues chime in. Still very happy with my Dozier though.

Didn't really experience that issue with the Doizer I have, but ran into it on some other folders. One of my favorite Benchmades, the 425, had this problem and it really affected how much I carried it. If there isn't the option to switch a knife to tip up carry then I try to remember to put my hand in my pocket so the pinky finger is running under the scales of the knife, thus avoiding catching the side of the hand on the sharp areas. I suppose you could contact Bob and see if he'd be willing to deburr those thumb serrations for you.

I know nothing about Doziers, but there's a Dozier folder called a "workhorse" that just went up on Nordic knives today, FYI.

The "jimping" or gooves on the thumb region of the folder are meant to provide a non slip platform if the user needs to bear down hard for certain applications. Keep in mind that many Dozier owners use their blades in all trades/ all weather conditions. If it is particulary cold outdoors, the grooves will help steady the overall grip. More so if gloves are worn. Oil, grease, blood, food fat, etc.- all can potentially cause a less than firm grip on your knife. I' ve used many Dozier mades over the years. And the grooves have not bothered me much at all. In fact, many years back a certain member on this forum consistently suggested Bob to cut grooves into their line of strait knives. It was met with resistance. Now there are various models in Bobs line that sport these thumb grooves. Or is done at customers request.

If you are handy with simple tools and have patience, you can "break" those sharp edges with a light grit ceramic rod or a super fine diamond type. Squared off or triangle cross section type will do just fine. Careful, light deliberate strokes is a good way to start. Enjoy your new folder.
