In my search for all the grinders I can find available before I buy one, I ran stumbled upon Bob Dozier's webpage. I did not know he made a grinder. But, in reading all the endorsements, sounds like he only makes them for companies. Looks like its built like a tank. Also has a pneumatic tracking device? Anybody own one? I'm not asking about the quality as I am sure it is top drawer. I doubt that the average guy looking to buy a decent grinder could afford the "cadillac of grinders" as it is referred to. Any individuals like to weigh in on this one?--thanks--Dan

Dan, if you don't end up building your own, which is what I would suggest, buy one of Rob Frink's grinders. I've never read or heard a bad word about em and you can't beat the price. Plus Rob will work with you if theres something special you need. He does great work!

Tangus,
I too have heard great things about the Dozier grinder. From what has been explained to me, the tension is controlled by an air cylinder.....cool! ...to adjust the tension, you simply adjust the air pressure. I think that is really Trick!

Please post the URL were we can see it.

Thanks,
Rob

I have seen the Dozier grinders and have heard them run but have NOT had a chance to grind on one of them, the one i saw had the air powered belt tensioner with a quick valve to change belts. The way it was described to me was that the air tensioner helped a lot as the belt wore and stretched... 30 PSI was the same tension on the belt no matter the difference in length. One other thing on the Dozier grinders is the use of urethane drive and roller wheels, very quiet and very nice tracking.

The one i saw had a 3HP DC variable on it and when turned on made absolutely NO NOISE while running, so easier on the ears but not so easy on the wallet.

I was scared to ask the price of one of these grinders, and in my opinion it would be a very servicable machine for the individual but so would the frink or the bader or any standardized machine...

Ideally i would still think a Frink grinder with a direct mounted 3HP DC would be the pinnacle with a 14 inch wheel of course! Now all we gotta do is get him to find some ultra quiet urethane wheels.:)

Hope it helps, nice grinder if ya got the $$$$$!!!

I have owned and used a Dozier grinder for the last three years. It is a fine machine. It runs smooth, quiet, and the belts track really great. The Dozier grinder also lends itself to special attachments that can be made. I also own a Square Wheel grinder, a Burr King, and a J.L. grinder. I like them all. I am a part time maker who can afford to spend my knife profits on machinery. I sold my first knife 22 years ago and since that time have put almost all my profits into shop equiptment. I don't think anyone would go wrong buying a Dozier Grinder although they are more expensive than other grinders. What it really comes down to though is the skill of the operator, not what kind of grnder they have. I have never used a Rob Frink grinder but I am sure they are excellent. Rob did make a slow-down wheel for my Square Wheel grinder and I was very impressed with his work. The wheel he made was absolutely perfect. Hope this helps, Tom Lewis

I too, have looked at and drooled over the Dozier grinder. This is one super nice machine, but pretty expensive. I think it is about $4000 or so. Not sure if I can scrape up twice what a variable speed Bader would cost though.
