Dozier K1 vs. K4 question

I am ordering a Dozier straight personal for a fixed blade EDC.
I also would like something bigger (I have fairly large hands) for the outdoors. I don’t hunt but I do a lot of backpacking and car camping. The two knives I have been looking at are the K-1 General Utility and the K-4 Straight Hunter. Any favorites out there for the camp like tasks?

Thanks, John

Both the K-1 and K-4 are excellent knives. If you have large hands, I'd chose the K-4. The K-4 has the larger grip of the two, which makes a huge difference. If you ask me, The K-4 has one of the best grips ever designed for utility work. The K-4 also happens to have a larger blade, which should contrast better with your upcoming Straight Personal. Make sure to order the Dozier Wilderness Style sheath to go with it. It's an amazingly functional sheath.

The only downside I can think of is the edge on the K-4. This edge is a very thin high performance edge. I prefer such an edge, but some people like a thicker and more durable edge. I do believe that some of Bob's models are ground thicker than others. A quick call into Dozier Knives, and a short talk with Linda Dozier will help you in selecting the model that best suits your needs.

The Pro-Guide is a great compliment to one of the smaller Doziers. It's a little larger all the way around and the handle is just the right size, a little bit larger but not overly large either. Well worth the money IMHO.

First, I have a straight personal and trust me....you'll love it.

I want a Pro Guide for my second dozier. The others seem to close in size to the personal to really be that different in my oppinion. I would rather have the extra size of the Pro Guide when I can carry it, and use the Personal when I can't.

Just a thought, but Bob will make the handle a little longer for a nominal fee. Maybe $20? I used to have him customize mine all the time, but lately I have had great luck buying knives directly off of his table at the Tulsa gun and knife show.

Thanks for your replies!
I am leaning towards the K4. The Pro guide is a little bigger than I was thinking but I am still considering it too. In addition, the K-2 general purpose looks great too (some many choices)

Any reason why the K-2 would not be a great general camp knife?

So i guess what i am saying now is: What are your thoughts between the K-2 and the K-4?

Thanks again.

John

I have the small utility, which is very close to the straight personal in appearance and feel. I have been carrying this knife every day.

You're going to love the straight personal knife. It's just too handy not to have on your person day in and day out. It's a real easy, accessible carry that does not get in the way at all.
