I just received my first custom knife by Bob Dozier (Straight Hunter). Only problem is that I got it as a gift for a friend and now I have to let it out of my lustful little hands. NOW I HAVE TO HAVE ONE! I expected it to be great by all the things I has read, but WOW! Now I'm having a time deciding which one I want for myself. I have narrowed it between the Straight Hunter and the Personal Utility. But then I like the Slim Outdoorsman....and o yeah I saw the Straight Personal on Russell's site and I want it. Folks I have it bad. Is there any cure? Is there any advice?

Here is my personal favorite:

This is a variation on his #6 model with a 5-1/2" blade and slightly larger guards. It's a bit large for daily carry, but just the right size for a do-everything fixed blade. The good news is that all Doziers seem to be excellent. :)

LOL. The only cure is to buy more than one, that's what I did. I got the K-1 and the K-4. I actually bought 3, but gave one to my buddy for a gift as well.

Welcome to the Forums, Darry.

You are hopelessly hooked. But don't let it bother you. The Forum offers free on-line therapy sessions as well as debt consolidation services.:D :D

Buy them all !!!

I have a Toothpick and a Master Skinner by Bob , They both have Maple Burl handles and have been great knives . Buy them and enjoy .

I forgot , Welcome to the forums and Happy Holidays .

I can understand your problem . Bob does make some DARN good cutting
tools indeed. So here's my spin on what to buy........

Buy the Straght personal from A.G. Russell. I have one and an constantly
amazed at how much actual work this little knife can do. It is as A.G. says
in his cataloge. ...Never wrong for the job. This knife would be a very good
first Dozier to start with.

I don't care for the crossdraw kydex sheath that Bob put the personal in so
I made a simple leather foldover belt sheath to carry mine in. Funny thing
is the only comment I've ever gotten about this knife is "Where'd you get
that? I think that's a neat knife" from non-knife people. I carry it every
where exceptto work (sept 11 ya know!) . Good luck !

I'm sure your friend would be just as happy with a tie. Ya might lose a buddy, but what the hey... you'll have a fine blade. ;) Just kiddin ya.

Welcome to the forums, Darryl. Happy holidays.

Sheesh guys!

We're gonna get this guy hooked(then he'll be knife poor jes like the rest of us)

Seriously, Dozier makes a GREAT using knife for a VERY resonable price.

I bought my first one 2 years ago and was hooked. I currently own a K-7 Slim Outdoorsman, a K-8 Simi Skinner, a Straight Personal and have a Professional Skinner on order.

For general use/carry, I prefer the Straight Personal only barely over the Slim Outsdoorsman for two reasons: it is slightly smaller OAL and has finger grooves. (The handle on the Slim Outdoorsman handle gets a little slippery when wet and I've already decided it is going back to Bob to have the handle bead blasted to improve the "grip").

I had Bob bead blast the Simi Skinner Micarta handle when he made it. It not only looks really sharp but really enhances the "feel" of the knife.

I prefer the cross draw sheath beacause it is never in the way and always within easy reach.

Ok guys, I can't stand it any more! I just got off the phone with Dozier Knives. I decided on the Straight Personal with the micarta handle color like the one shown in the picture of Lenny's knife (tan with black stripe). I'll be wringing my hands for the four month wait. O by the way, I also have a folding knife on order from Ray Rogers in Washington state that I have been waiting for for several months. It should be ready next month. I am caught in the vortex and spinning out of control. You folks may be bad for my financial health.

To my fellow novices :) to Dozier mades, have those micarta scales CHECKERED man! ALL of my using Doziers including Personal Utility, Strait Personal, Agent, Drop Point Personal have this treatment done. It allows for a secure grip that is tenfold better than any other polished or smooth finished scales. Bead blasting is nice, if you' re going to just admire it or hang it on a wall. :) Good luck with your purchase. You can' t go wrong with a Dozier made.

Nakano- senior Dozier advisor :)

Nakano2 was kind enough to let me handle his checkered Dozier (Mod. 6?)
The checkering makes a huge difference.
And it doesn't look bad either!

Oh, and it won't be "should" I get another Dozier...it'll be "Which?" :D
