To what extent are they custom made?
I recall a thread in which someone posted that blades are all hand ground, but cant find it anywhere...
thanks in advance

ps: also i have strong feeling of deja vue... did I asked this question already?

Go to Dozierknives.com. They have a talk forum there. You can find out more about Dozier knives. I have 3. They are great knives. At their price, they are a bargin.

Here's a quote that might answer your question:
"Bob Dozier's flat ground knives which are marked "Arkansas Knives" rather than "Arkansas Made" include a fair amount of outsourced work. The blades are laser cut, double disk ground and then flat ground by outside sources instead of being bandsawed, surface ground then hollow ground in his own shop. Bob insists on doing the heat treat himself to assure the quality of heat treat that he feels D2 must have. After the flat grinding, the blade is finish ground and the knife is constructed in Bob's shop here in Northwest Arkansas."

The knives marked "Arkansas Made" are done fully in the Dozier shop, so I would consider these "Custom Made", although most are made in predetermined styles. The argument might be made that these are not truly "Custom" in the sense that they're not made to the customers specifications, it depends on your definition of the term I guess.

If you are going to go by strict definitions, I would consider those marked Arkansas Made to be handmade rather than custom. That doesn't take away from the fact that they are excellent knives. Those marked Arkansas Knives are what some people would call Mid-Tech, though Bob really seems to hate that term when it is used to describe his knives.

Whatever you want to call them, they are superb knives that offer excellent value.

And from what I have read and been told, Mr. Dozier has flat nailed the heat treat for D2. The price sure it right on his "don't call them mid tech" models.

thanks, gentlemen, for clarification. I was eyein ' Doziers for long time, and will probably go with straight personal or other EDCable blade.

You'll be happy with whatever Dozier you choose. My personal favorite is the Arkansas traveler. Enjoy your Dozier!

They have a forum there and you can ask for yourself.

Lenny,

The Straight Personal is a great knife!
One of my most used. I now have two (Thanks Vince!). :D
Pointy tip, a little belly, and a flat cutting edge as well.
Very versatile and cuts big in a small package but no need to baby it.

I don't think Dozier farms out any of those mid-tech flat grinds any more.
Too much hassle and not enough return. I believe all is now done in house including the heat treat.

Maybe Nakano or Alicia from Dozier will weigh in.

All the knives are handmade in the shop. None of the blades are being sent out to be CNC'ed anymore. I agree the Traveler is a great EDC as well as the K-18 Straight Personal. Personally I like my K-28 ;-)

E-mail me if you would like more information on any of the knives, I am always happy to help.
