I took the skinner model, and created a warncliffe.I used a belt sander,at a friends glass shop.It uses water,so the blade never gets hot.

I think it is cool, what do you think?

Looks like a fine job to me. Welcome to D2 huh? That stuff is the real deal when it comes to hard to grind stuff. You may not have had much trouble with the little bit but be glad it wasn't more. The stuff goes through some belts in my experience.
Good job. I really like Wharnies too.

STR,These $20 models are AUS-8,I believe.I am going to try a trapper slipjoint,next time.

Awesome job and kudos for making something you want out of a production knife.

I wish there were more threads like this :D

Thank's Reb,I like the way it turned out, too.I'm gonna look for a trapper slippy, with the nail nick, far enough back,on the spey blade,to convert it to a warny.I'll post pictures of that project, after I get it done.....

Awe. My bad. I thought for sure that was the 4059. I see my err now.

Very nice job - looks good. For utility work it's tough to beat a warncliffe.

Thanks guys! The grind is nothing to compare to the custom hollow ground Dozier knives, but for a twenty dollar bill, you can't go wrong.I ordered a few of these today, and I'm gonna do a couple more up.

They must be pretty nice. I remember reading somewhere, probably here or over on his own forum, that Bob Dozier posted that he carried one of those a lot. For anyone that knows Bob, if it didn't work he wouldn't carry it even if it was a production of something he designed. He'd make them fix it first' and I don't recall any 'you need to fix this' threads about it from him. I do recall many saying its one of the best values in the knife industry though.

STR,No doubt, this knife is a worker.I've owned more multiples of this knife, out of any production knife that's out there.I had a conversation, with Bob once, about the actual skinner knife design, that this modded design came out of.He was very proud, about the way it worked, and helped the user, when dressing an animal. He made me laugh, saying, about the blade - "Ugly as heck, but it works great !". I ordered 4 of these,I'm going to keep one as a skinner.
The one in the picture is on its way to a friend.I'll put up a picture of the second one I do,we'll see how consistent I can get it done.I get a kick out of this, but I'm no knifemaker.Credit where credit is due,to all the knifemakers. It makes me appreciate my knives, that much more.........

If you are interested in selling one of them, please give me a bump. Your mod looks nice and clean.

Knifetester,I can't figure out,why they have not put a warncliffe like this out,in production.
They have the skinner, the spearpoint hunter,a thumb hole blade,a drop pt.,and a spear blade. The warncliffe adds great variety to the line-up.
Sometimes,I guess you gotta "grab the bull by the horns",so I did it myself.
I think if Bob saw it,he'd like it,what's not to like about it?

All right,I just got in with my first multiple set,a trio.I think the top one has more of like a sheepfoot type point, with the bottom two,a bit pointier. The one all the way on the bottom,is in my pocket. How did I do on consistency?

Go to the forum on dozier's web site and post the pics. I'll bet they'll like them, and that's a sure way to make sure Bob sees them.

Those all look very nice! Great work. I agree, show the Bob Dozier and the folks at the forum your work.

How thin are they behind the edge?

Knifetester,Do you mean, how thin is the hollow grind? It is pretty good on these knives. They are nicely made, for sure, for thier category($20 Zytel lockback).I guess I should do a thread in the Dozier forum, and I will.

Those look great! I just picked up a skinner yesterday and was thinking along those same lines for modding the blade. I wish that I had a wet grinder to play with!
