Folks,

Need advice:

Saw a Dozier Model 8 with a double guard at the ECCKS today, and a Randall Model 16 Special Fighter with a full tang #1 blade. Like both very much. Randall has a 440C 7 1/8" blade. Dozier is D2 with a 5" blade, I believe. Prices are comparable, $325 - $350.

Which would you buy, and why?

Thanks,

Alan

That bad boy on Bob D's table was For Sale?!
Doh! I thought that was part of the collection of his old knives that they had out, too.
I admit, I was weak, I picked up a personal utility.
I like the fall show a little better,
March is "Buy A Dozier Month"
Ebbtide.
PS: I'd go for the Dozier.

Edited for dumb error. I thought you meant the big bowie standing on the antler, then I reread your post that mentioned 5" blade. I'd still go with Bob.

The Dozier! Bob makes awesome "using" knives! Some of the very best grind lines, steel tempering, and sheaths. I believe his knives represent the best value in custom knives (or any hard use knives for that matter).

They're both great knives, Alan, but I'd also have to say go with the Dozier. I am not putting down the Randall in any way; however, looking at the steels alone, the performance of the D2 s/b surperior. I will admit to being somewhat prejudiced... I picked up a Dozier Model 6 for myself at the show.

I'm a big fan of both but it depends on what you plan to use it for. I realize that you are talking about the Special fighter version of the 16, but the original 16 was designed as a divers knife. If you are planning in or around water use, especially salt water, I'd go with the Randall due to superior corrosion resistence.
