Hi,

I have to show this to you all... otherwise I'm just sitting here with a big grin on my face and my wife and kids wondering what the heck is wrong with me (I don't quite have the courage to show off yet another knife at home). My Dozier ProGuide Stag just arrived:

Just in case the inserted image doesn't show (I just upgraded to a gold membership a few minutes ago; it might not have processed yet), I've also put it at:

Mike,

Enjoy your Dozier! She is a beauty! My PGK is my faithful companion, and I have never been disappointed with her ability to cut and slice!
Use her well!

Les

Thanks for sharing. That's a beautiful knife.I'm lusting after one of Doziers knives as well.

That is a great looking knife. My only concern would be that the hand guard looks pretty meager. It would no fun at all to have your hand accidentally slide up on the blade!

Woohoo!!! It looks like Doris has a long lost sister. ;)

Awesome Dozier. Gotta' love that stag.

The guard looks the same as the one on my K-4. I wouldn't be worried about it at all. My K-4 affords me a better grip than any other knife I've held. I don’t go around stabbing things with Doris, but I’ve never had even a hint of hand slippage while cutting things. Then again, I’m not a big fan of traditional guards. All they usually do for me is to create a nice big blister on my forefinger.

I' m all for finger guards. And this particular guard is ample enough. But this beauty is meant for practical hard use. And not necessarily for where thrusting motions are required. The Dozier shop can make variations of almost all of their models at time of ordering. Mike, enjoy your new Dozier made! And post a pic of this at their discussion forum: www.dozierknives.com

Oh, hi Buzz. :)

Ah but if you look at it, the back of that index finger groove acts like another guard for the middle finger. Combined, they help keep the whole hand from sliding up much more than if there was only the small integral guard up front.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for all the feedback!

Buzzbait... I think Doris will always remain in a class of her own... something other knives aspire towards! I have to admit it was a certain amount of Doris-envy that moved me towards this purchase.

I can't wait to get out canoeing and camping, however in view of the big dump of snow that we just had and the soon-to-be frozen lakes and rivers here, it might be a little while :(

Buzzbait. Reference your Hiking Sticks FAQ, my question is are you making these for sale? Want to get a good cedar hiking stick for a friend in Georgia that I did a trip into Afghanistan with. As far as Bob Dozier goes all his knives have one thing in common, the cut extremely well. I am anxously awaiting the return of my Dozier folder, the original one, as I have sent it off to Bob Schrap to get one of his poch sheaths made for it. I had showed the Dozier to a friend who is not knife knowledgeable and he said it "just looks like a cheap, plastic handled knife" (it has sort of an Osage Orange, brown handle. I was hurt, but then thought no worries mate. I know what it can do but it does not look threatning, so much the better. Pleae let me know about the hiking stick. Thanks.

I'm afraid that I haven't had much time to work on hiking sticks lately. The new house has been consuming most of my free time. I'll be headed into the Adirondacks for a couple days this weekend. I'll see if I can scout out a couple pieces of good cedar. If I find anything, I'll shoot you an email.

Nice score for your collection. Don't be afraid to use her, even though she is pretty. Seeing your post literally made me go home at lunch and strap on my Dozier stag slim outdoorsman. I feel kindly tingly right now. Welcome to the stag Dozier brotherhood.

AWESOME!

Everytime someone posts a picture of a new Dozier, I get the urge to place an order for another one. I Must resist, must resist, must...oh what the hell!

Mike Harlos,

My first handmade was a Dozier, and several later, he is still one of my very favorite makers/knife people.

BTW, I'm from St. James. Have not been home for a while, but will be there next summer. It really is an underrated part of the country. I miss Whiteshell and Nopaming!

Regards

Hi Jim,

Good to hear from another Winnipeger! I too love the area around here for outdoors activities.

I've mostly purchased knives made by Bob Dozier; they are not outrageously priced, and are so nice to hold, to use, and to just plain look at!

Mike
