Thanks, one of the more interesting photo albums I've looked through

Hi RYP [or if anyone else knows],

If you don't mind me asking, [ I did try to do a search but nothing came up]. Can you tell me/give a story about the background of the DPX HEST skull logo? TBH I kind of like the skull logos and such [esee, dpx, emerson, etc] and it would be cool to know if there is any particular story that helped create that logo or what not. If not thats cool too lol

MR DP was born because I used to give out gifts to soldiers at checkpoints. I used to give out Upper Deck holographic cards (I designed, created and marketing Upper Deck's company and products back at the beginning)

So I decided to create an iconic logo that could also be used to identify where I had been and for those that didn't speak english you could just point at MR DP and they would remember if I had been there.
I also did T-shirts and hats worn by a number of rebel leaders, special forces units and even adopted by ODA 595 (the guys who fought on horseback in Afghanistan back in 2001)
Now you can see MR DP in bars from Kabul to Djibouti to Burma to wherever. Its in mercenary bars, russian helos etc etc and along with the Black Flag a symbol of a certain kind of mindset.

That's why he is on some of our gear. Its like a secret handshake. You either know who he is...or you don't.

Like a Nike Swoosh for the world's most dangerous places.

"Just Do It" might not be the best slogan though for this crowd.

That's a cool back story. I'll start looking more closely for Mr. DP in photos and video.

99% certain that is a Becker Patrol Pack. I forget who originally produced it, maybe Eagle Industries? Right now, though, I believe this patrol pack is as close as you can get to the original. I've been looking for several days now, and this is all I've found close. At least, new that is. Might be able to dig one up used somewhere. It is almost like a modernized ALICE pack, medium. Seems to be quite well liked by anyone who has tried one. It is a little on the steep side for me, though.

Like Mistwalker stated in the other thread (about the Burma pics): definitely dig the Dennis Hopper quotes. Bookmarked to check back from time to time.

Maybe it's the Black hawk version...I don't recall seeing that "flap" between the two outer pouches on the cover on the Eagle version. I've got the Eagle MOLLE Becker Patrol which I love, but I'm always on the lookout for the standard version.

Yeah, Blackhawk version. But I thought that flap was on the standard version, too, covering a reflector tab or something. I think it is the "glint ID patch," or something.

Yea, I think that patch "glows" through IR goggles/cameras so folks in copters can see where you are on the ground. I think..

Anyways I'm curious how it stands up to the standard/old Eagle pack if Robert is out there..

I don't like the Blackhawk Becker pack. The corners don't fold right. The Eagle was better built but the straps would rip. They would fix it for free. Both around $225 I think. I use a Blackhawk jump bag for bigger check on and I did my Burma trip test driving the ESEE pack which performed well except for one thing. THe back area is rubber and it cooks the shit out of your back raising your body temperature. A vented back would be better. But worked flawlessly smelt like death and oh yeah the little dingleberries on the zipper thingies fall off and the brass grommet fell out.

Thanks for the info. Something about that Blackhawk pack looked peculiar when I saw the pics when it came out, I coulden't put my finger on it but it had that knockoff look. I like the Blackhawk pants (and a pair of gloves I have), but some of their gear looks a little sketchy.

What kind of media will this Burma trip be released as?...Video, article, book?
