I'm considering a smaller EDC (<3" blade) and an acquaitance recommended DPX Gear "Heat". Anyone familiar w/this knife? Haven't heard alot about DPX. Thoughts?

Decent knife for my needs. I have the LE Titanium and a D2 G10 model. I use them when traveling in blade length restricted areas only. The handle is large for such a small knife which is why I chose it. The locks were sticky when new but both broke in very well. The fit and finish is great. I do not use the heck out of them since they are only my travel knives.

I don't have a HEAT but I have several HEST folders and fixed blades.

If you like what you see on the web, go ahead and buy one. The are very good knives in all areas.

I asked about sub-2.5 folders on this forum and this knife was one of the recommendations given. I got the G10 with Sleipner steel a week or two ago. It's made by Lionsteel so the fit and finish are near perfect and the ergonomics fit my mid-sized hand very comfortably. The first aspect of the knife to jump out at me upon opening the box was just how thick it is–both the scales and the blade which measures in at 5mm. In spite of the short blade it glides right through thicker wood. When I first saw pictures of this knife I hated the bottle opener but I read a review that mentioned it also works well as an pocket-opener which it does. I asked a question over at the Lionsteel forum about the G10 scale: I though it had a steel if not titanium insert embedded in it because of how sturdy it felt but the response was that it's solid G10. I'm considering ways to remove the laughing skull graphic from the pocket clip; it seems like something featured on a mid-80s skateboard.

I carry one daily.
Ti/g10 sleipner (60hrc iirc) first run. At first I was a little hesitant to thin the edge being that all I have read on the steel equate it similar to d2 and I didn't want to have to deal with carbide tear out... After about a month of use, I noticed it didn't sharpen like my bk24 (d2), it took a finer edge and an easier polish, so I took it to my dmt stones for re profiling.

It took me a little bit of time to thin it out considering the most coarse dmt I have is a "fine" stone, but it did work and now the knife is one of my favorite carry knives.

Pick one up in sleipner over d2, if possible, the milspec has it iirc. I forget what other steels they offer, but I love mine, it is relatively sheeple friendly, can get Hair Popping sharp, responds to a loaded strop with green and white compound.

Mine did have some lock stick when I got it and it broke in nicely, occasionally, this odd sluggish/grinding feeling between the detent ball and the blade would occur, sort or like the detent ball wasn't spinning, or gliding across the steel, but a quick cleaning when it occurred temporarily cleared it. Over time that also has gone away (maybe took 3 weeks- a month) and it is Very smooth now, lock up is secure, no blade play in any direction.

If you want to know anything in particular, just ask and I will try to accommodate you.

Bill K.

Edit: by a quick clean, I meant I would just swipe a business card between the scales and blade while opened and closed on both sides and it would would be cured.
