Has anyone bought this knife yet? If so, would you mind sharing first impressions or whatnot? I'm interested in it, but after experiencing what happened on the first run of the HEST I'm hesitant. Thanks in advance

I assume you're talking about the new DPx HEAT/F First Run folder? If so, they just came out and mine should be here next week. I'll advise.

I'm interested in it, but after experiencing what happened on the first run of the HEST I'm hesitant.

What happened on first run of DPx HEST/F? No issues with DPx HEST/F 2.0 and I have two of those.

Note: There's a lot more information about DPx Gear knives in the LionSteel forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/859-LionSteel-knives

I got mine Friday, so I can only share first impressions. To me, it feels just like a smaller version of the HEST. My HEST had a sticky lockbar from the start, but the HEAT hasn't had a problem yet. The fit and finish look very good (but I haven't disassembled yet). It opens smoothly. Other things I like:
- Open construction
- Deep carry clip with the cool little glassbreaker
- Very grippy/rough G10
- Jimping on the G10 and the titanium at the rear of the handle

Downsides:
- A little heavy for the size

It will get some pocket time and some use, but so far, I really like this little folder.

If I recall correctly the lock had a tendency to fail. Never purchased one myself but I remember reading about it it.

Had mine for a week and I really like it. I have the HEST serrated and it is a little big to carry in dress pants at work - fine with jeans in the field but just a bit akward walking around at the office with. The fit and finish are excellent. Open and closes smooth. Feels really good in hand. My hands are smaller, maybe if you got big mits its too small but I doubt it. Nice having a sturdy little beast in your pocket. Love the Sleipner steel for how it looks and that people I explain it to get that its on meat cutting equipment at the butcher shop. Love the bottle opener notch - funny but a big deal to me because its fun as heck to use. It does work as a wave but not something practicle with dress pants - fine on jeans. I like it. If I had it before my HEST, I wouldn't have bought a HEST. May go on sale.

Can an owner chime in on the total thickness of the HEAT?

I carried my new DPx HEAT/F folder all day today (10+ hours). I alternated between jeans change pocket and regular pocket. It carries very well and deep. Size and price wise it matches up directly against Spyderco Techno. I paid about the same for each.

HEAT/F is heavier at 4.12 ounces vs. 3.52 ounces for the Techno. This was surprising since Techno has all titanium handles whereas HEAT/F is G10 on one side. The titanium slab on the HEAT/F is much thicker and heavier. While the blade on the HEAT/F does not have the big Spydie hole to reduce weight it is a little shorter and the bottle opener reduces the weight a little. Lock up is at about 20% on both.

Techno has a longer 2.5" blade of CTS-XHP whereas HEAT/F is 2.25" of Sleipner. Blade thickness is the same at 0.18".

The handle on the HEAT/F is a good 0.25" longer and the reason becomes clear when you hold it because you can get all four fingers on the handle but on the Techno the pinkie goes underneath. Also, the G10 affords a much better grip since Techno has no texturing on the titanium handles.

HEAT/F gets extra points for the bottle / wave opener and a robust glass breaker but needs a little more time to become smoother (already better today than yesterday).

Techno is buttery smooth right now, is lighter and takes up a little less space in the change pocket. Also, due to slick titanium on both sides extraction is smooth.

Can't go wrong with either. Tough to choose just one. I'd love to see the same size as HEAT/F due to great grip but thin textured titanium handles on both sides. Wait, I have one with full titanium and a flipper but short handle. Itt's called the Curtiss F3 Compact and it's about the same size but costs 3.5 times more!

About a half inch. Same thickness as the HEAT. Seems completely proper width for the knife. Overall I find the knife has a great feel - thickness, weight, length, curves, machining. Fun knife to hold. Looks good as well.

Recieved mine this week hate to say this but it does fit my hand better than the Techno, a little heavier and a solid feel in the hand.Over all fit and finish excellent, to me this is a great TOOL to have in your pocket ,robust and great looks!
