I am considering getting the Heft 6 for myself and the Heft 4 for my Daughters first knife. I'm not a big fan of the supplied sheaths but all in all it's not that big of a deal. I could always get some kydex bent for them. I am looking for anyone with first hand experience with these knives. I am a collector of custom and production knives, but the steel in these is new to me. I am attracted to the design. I've used many knives in the woods for tons of things and these seem like they would be usefull.

Thoughts?

You can't go wrong with either one of these IMO. I have the HEFT 4 and it's incredible steel. I think once the word either gets out or someone picks up a piece with Niolox and see for themselves, it rivals and actually betters some of the more well known steels IMO. It's so easy to sharpen and it holds its edge for quite a while.

I more often than not EDC mine so it gets used alot and I just don't see me actually sharpening it no more than twice during a years period. I strop mine after a hard use day or at the least once a week. It came very sharp, but I just touched it up...took no more than 4-5 minutes if that. So other than that original touchup all I've done is strop mine and it's like a razor.

I was fortunate enough to pickup the "Triple Black T3" a couple weeks ago and that's Niolox also. After having the HEFT4 I really liked the idea of having a folder in Niolox and there's no folders (that I know of) that incorporate that steel other than DPx and I'll just say that because of someone's kindness I now have my Niolox folder. If you're reading this, thank you so much, it's incredible.:)

Grab it. You can't go wrong with either choice and the gals and RYP at DPx are fantastic to work with. It's a win - win.

I'll be looking to pick these both up soon. How do the handles feel while using?

Yes, I had the 4. I would like to try the 6 for the extra blade length and see if that makes any difference, but if it has the same sized handles? then I don't think it would be enough to persuade me to keep it.

I'm a pretty big guy though with med/large hands. Maybe the 4 would be good for your daughter?

I'm really digging the blade shape. Seems like it would be good all around.

I was drawn to the 6 in my search for a 6 inch blade with no choil, I had my finger on the "buy" button but decided not to for a couple of reasons. Im a lefty so Id need a new sheath right away and the tactical features didnt appeal to me, the pommel, the thump ramp with wire strippers, etc. I ordered a custom of my own design (sort of) through Big Chris Customs. Chris Berry, good guy.

Both IMO feel great in the hand. The 6 is a little big for everyday carry where the 4 would be ok. But if your plans are backpacking or hunting the 6 would be a great choice. I have good luck with just stropping this to keep them very sharp.

If you need a sheath just send me a message. I would happy to help you with a sheath setup.

I have been looking at the 4 myself. From the research I have done, it seems like Niolox is a great steel. Kind of a upgraded D2. From what I gather it is a little better in edge retention and ease of sharpening, and quite a bit better in corrosion resistance. Again though, this is from little I could find online, not from personal experience.

I'm still on the fence with these. If I do get them, I'll definitely be in touch about some sheaths!

Hi,

I got the HEFT 4 milspec. What attracted me to it was the blade shape, the hollow handle, G10 scales and the overall aesthetics. Unfortunately, it didn't come as sharp as I would like, but a few hours with the sharpmaker took it to the level of sharpness that i wanted. Fit and finish is excellent befits its Italian Lionsteel quality of finish. Btw i have also the lion Steel M2 Hunter which also a very good skinner. It spine is rounded which to me is attention to details. The scales also line up perfectly with the tang thus eliminating any gaps creating a weather seal for the hollow handle to store small emergency items. Initially, i had some comfortability issues where my index finger would develope a sore when it grips the scaled near to the guard. But after continuous usage, it felt rightand i am enjoying the knife very much. Since there is a promotion happening now, its more value for your money.
