First I'd like to know which is better for edc between the hest and HEFT. Secondly, are both the DPX knives superior to the esee 3? The spine is a lot thicker on the DPX knives, but I've heard way more about the esee 3 than the dpx knives. It will only be used for edc and field work. I walk about a mile to field where I'm clearing out brush and cutting and chopping through vines and roots. I used to bring my husqvarna hatchet, but it's getting to be cumbersome on my walk. So I figured a sturdy fixed blade would still get the job done. I won't be batonning or anything like that. And I might split some small logs for kindling just for laughs. Also the dpx knife, is it niolox stainless or sleipner? Because as cool as the black traction coatings are, I'd prefer a stripped blade.

Any help would be appreciated

I use both the HEST and Heft knives.....so to help with an answer it really depends on use that day...in the field the Heft 4 comes along since I prefer a slightly larger blade and while at home and running thru stores the Hest II because of size......are they superior to the Esee 3, simply a matter of preference some might find the Niolox will hold a edge longer than the 1095...overall they're all strong blades.

The following is from DPX..

D2 - HEST/F 2.0, majority of our HEST/F line
Sleipner - HEFT 6 line, HEST/F Milspec, HEAT/F First Run, HEST II First Run (s/n with Zippo lighter)
Niolox - HEST II line, HEFT 4 line, HEST/F Triple Black Special Edition
1095 - HEST Original, HEST 4 Expedition
Elmax - Aculus Limited Edition

I've had all 3, and the HEFT 4 is, by far, my favorite.

The uncoated steel was great, sharpened easily and stayed sharp, reminded me a lot of D2 but seemed more stain resistant.

The pry bar thingy at the end of the handle was much easier to work around with the HEFT than the HEST.

The handles of the HEFT filled my hand much better than the ESEE-3, making it far more comfortable to use.

The HEFT 4's balance was superior to both the HEST and ESEE-3, both of which seemed handle heavy.

Awesome, I got pretty large hands, so ergonomics are important. Thank you
