Greetings all,

Been handling an as new/in the box HEST 1.0 Folder. Stubby little thing, more compact than I thought, but I like it. Stout, razor sharp blade, nice profile/geometry, innovative features, decent ergos, etc. This one I've got has been opened/closed a few hundred times (deliberately, checking for problems) and I'm not seeing any issues--lock is tight, probably about 50%, smooth action, no signs of peening, slipping, etc. Granted that's not actual 'use' per se, but so far, so good. At least it isn't having issues right out of the box

I've seen some of the videos and am aware of some of the lock issues as well as the 2.0 version/upgrades.

My question is: Did anyone get a 'good' v 1.0? I've read of people going through a few exchanges, problems with replacements etc. It seems as if they were all plagued with issues.

The internet is often the place where people go to express opinions/experiences, etc, both good and bad. It is also often times the place where the frustrated go to vent as well, and it sometimes seems as if these disgruntled folks all get on the same band wagon and in a condensed format, make it seems as if EVERYTHING and EVERY unit is screwed up. Sometimes it is, sometimes its not. You see a thread with 50 people saying they had a problem, and you're like WHOA! But what if 5000 units were sold, and the other 4,950 owners (99%) didn't have any problems...they just didn't get on this forum to say "Mine is fine." I dunno.

Obviously something was up as they came out with the 2.0 version to address some issues.

But getting back to my original question--are all v1.0's doomed to failure, or are there some out there working just fine. If so, what type of use have they seen?

What say you Gen 1 owners? Inquiring minds want to know. Now's your chance.

mine had slight lock rock, i took it apart and bent the lockbar in and all is well (its been several months and everything is peachy)... 1gen limited edition runs were the most problematic iirc with blade tips protruding and reversed logos :)

I have a LE that has a slight lock rock. My son has a 1.0 that also has a slight rock lock. He's in Afganisan and EDC's it and an Emerson 15. Neither one rock's bad enough to worry about in our opinions and if you use the lock, the rocking stops. I also have a 2.0 that's an EDC and a favorite folder.

my 1st gen DPX Hest is fine other than the floating tip when the knife is closes.

Hmmmm, my 1.0 was rock solid for the first day. Opened and closed it numerous times...looking for problems. Immediately the lock began to slip and continued to get worse. Customer service was great...quickly sending out a 2.0 (though they did keep my tool) Ive had the 2.0 now for several months with no issues. Great little bulldog of a knife.

I've had a first generation knife since about the time they came out last year and it's been great. I use it at work pretty frequently To cut rope, zip ties, and to pry stuff and it's only recently begun to exhibit any looseness... Then it tightened right up :)
