DPX Hest 2.0 vs ZT 0566

I'm debating between these two knives for a heavier duty every day carry. I'm not a huge fan of spring assisted knives so I'm leaning in the way of the Hest. Any opinions of these two knives? Or similair knives that I should consider. Note the ZT 0560 is just a little to chunky with its large broad blade for me even though it's beautiful.

honestly the 566 i've heard mixed reviews about so far. Don't get me wrong I still want it but from what i've heard the first run has their fair share of quirks until you de-assist them.

Are you talking about some people having very stiff knives? If so, experience tells me it should take just a little bit of time for them to break in before they're operating smoothly. It's not to say that people aren't having problems or that what you're hearing is wrong, I'm just saying that it takes a little time sometimes. Maybe these aren't the issues you're talking about.

From what i've read there has been some quirks with the stiffness as well as blade centering issues and other small little things that really dont bother me much but might bother others more. Again like I said still doesn't make me not want to own one.

I've got both the hest folder and the zt566. Both nice knives, the hest is a much thicker blade more heavy duty than the 566 which is similar in size in the pocket. Really the zt550 is closer to the hest and doesn't carry as well its so much wider closed it takes up a lot more pocket than the hest. Both knives hold an edge well but i would give the heavy duty edge to the hest.

Every single HEST/F that I had (a bunch) developed lock issues almost immediately after using them.

The only ones that did not develop play/rock were NEW, returned as a warranty claim for ones that I sent in, and I sold them, NIB.

If they got the lock angle figured out, I would not be opposed to another one. Everything else about them was pretty nice.

I sold my Hest to pick up a 566, couldn't be happier. I also de assisted it, it's very smooth. I find the ZT to be a much better EDC knife. The Hest is more of an outdoor/camping/hard use knife, IMO. The 566 is plenty wrong for EDC, it's pretty much perfect.

Okay, gotcha. Yeah, a lot of that does differ from knife to knife.

I'm guessing the intended word was "strong"? I was just... taken a little by surprise at the contrast between the two parts of that sentence :o

I got one of this 0556 that were too tight to really operate reliably.

I took it apart and removed the spring and then cold not operate it at all like that, not smart enough evidently?

So I took it apart again and replaced the spring and now it feels like a different knife all together!

I think the problem ones just need tweaking and then they are fine?
I know mine is and I am fairly new at this with knives.

Adjusting the pivot bolt allowed me to dial it in and get the blade centered and now it is as smooth as I hoped it would have been from the start.

I know nothing about the DPX but I would not worry a lot about the 566 it was simple to get right.

I have the left hand HEST 2.0, But I can't speak for the other. The rotoblock makes the HEST a fixed blade (with limits)

But I have to throw a wrench into the works and suggest the Benchmade Adamas. (Which I also own) It is a tank of a knife.

No. It doesn't.

It does keep the lock from disengaging last a certain point, if you choose to engage it. Of course, when the lock wears in past the point of contact with the rotoblock, and the lock slips, you just end up with a rattly slipping "locking" folding knife.

That is why I put the with limits comment. I've had mine for a while and its still rock solid. Just not as smooth to open as most of my knives.

I still prefer the Adamas over anything with a frame lock.

The HEST 2.0 was perhaps the first heavy-duty folder I owned. It was a VERY heavy-duty knife with a blade thickness of 0.190", which is the same thickness as a Strider SMF. My HEST had a sticky lock, which seemed rather common "back then" a year or two ago, although various owners reported that it "broke in" after a bit of use and was fine. I'm a casual user, which means I seldom deploy my blade and then not for anything serious...thank goodness. I wasn't fond of the rotating thingie that converted it to a "fixed" blade. A decent lock shouldn't fail when deployed under normal circumstances, and if you're using it for something that unholy, that you should be using a gun and you should be running backwards. The HEST is a darned good SMALL footprint pry-bar, and I don't mean to make light of it. It's easily carried in a pocket.
The ZT 0566 has not YET made it to my home, but it will. I've had many ZT's, and they are all great. However, many of them are too large for my personal use and I got rid of them soon, such as the 56x series folders. I've had a bunch of 0350's in various configuration, and they're all great. Heck, you can even find one in M390...an outstanding blade-steel. I have a nice NIB 0550, generation 2, and just purchased two tactical collab models 0360. The 0566 should be a good size and I'm anxious to try it out pretty soon.
