I dont know how i missed this, but the DPX HEST 2.0 is now available in a limited version called the Triple Black Special Edition.

Reports are that it won the 2012 Most Innovative Imported Design at BLADE. Im assuming its the same build as the regular D2/green HEST 2.0 though.

The serrated blade steel is coated Niolox rated at 60 HRC and the G-10 scale and pocket-clip is black too. The tool has been redesigned and comes with a built-in compass.

Its priced at 350$ at the DPX site, but i dont know if thats MSRP or street price.

The blurb from the DPX site:

The DPx HEST/F 2.0 Triple Black Special Edition ("T3") is an all black stealth version of our hard use folding knife in a limited run of 500 pieces. The custom tool features a hand made Pyser brass compass made in the UK for the SAS and survival applications. The tool features a cord cutter, pry, hex driver, pivot tension adjustment tool and tool to replace the hardened steel glass breaker. A soft head screw is also provided if the glass breaker is not required.

The "T3" is an extremely low-profile knife designed for law enforcement and military use where a superior cutting edge and low visual signature are priorities. This is the first HEST folder with custom designed serrations designed with the input of first responders and SAR professionals.

The 3.94" German Niolox corrosion resistant blade is PVD coated with a matte black TiCN coating to increase hardness and concealability.

One side of the frame is scaled in grip textured black American G10 polymer. The other slab is 6Al4V titanium that's alloy coated. The blade is physical vapor deposition coated with a slippery, durable layer of Titanium Nickel. The signature black pocket clip features the Mr. DPTM logo.

Like the other DPx HEST/F models, the "T3" comes with the patented RotoBlock® to lock the folder open. Three sizes of wire strippers serve as unique and slip-proof jimping. A removable glass breaker screws into the butt of the knife, and the hex driver in the handle may be used with the knife open or closed.

That's nice looking but I would love to see them do a HEST scale that has a different texture on it and maybe rounder edges. I love my HEST 2.0 but would not pay $350 for one.

Aw man that would go great with my standard 2.0. Bit high on the price though.

Looks sweet. Is all black too black...no! nice serrations, generally im not a fan but not bad here! Cool info thanks!

"It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black."

IIRC, the Hest 2.0 is available new from various dealers for $175. I cannot believe that the new model would be twice that amount. With hollow handles and a compass, bottle opener, glass-breaker... and a "driver," I begin to worry about "balance" in a design like that. The bottle-opener is also said to be useful as a sort of Wave feature, although it is much reduced from my Emerson Wave. There's a fine line, IMO, between "useful" and "gimmicks."
Forget all that stuff and give me a Hest of 5.1 oz of good knife handle and good blade-steel. BTW, my ZT 0550 weighs 5.8 oz.
I have a ZT 0550 and have thought a lot about getting the Hest 2.0, but I'm not convinced. The Hest 2.0 has a blade-spine thickness of 0.197" and my ZT 0550 only has a max spine thickness of 0.156". The Hest has a spine that's 33% thicker than the ZT and the ZT is already known as a "prybar."
I think the Hest blade is overkill, but there is a lot of competition between the Hest and my ZT 0550 and it seems like the owners on both sides are happy.
Interesting.
