I just recently purchased the DPX Heft 6 assault. I've used it quite a bit on day camping trips and so far I'm very pleased with the edge retention and overall ruggedness of this knife. The HEft has now replaced my ESSE 4 as a pack knife for a few reasons (btw i am still a die hard ESSE fan). The heft seems to be around the same weight (maybe even a tad less!) as the ESSE 4, so you get a larger blade without the extra weight. The erinomics of the handle is very nice, and the blade shape gives it excellent slicing capabilities - ESSE 4 seems to be thicker near the edge and the heavy coating on esse knives can become a bit sticky with a lot of friction. This was not meant to be a comparative post, just some thoughts.
What I want to ask is this: What are your experiences with DPX? - (particularly the new niolox and shleipner steels) What are your likes/dislikes, Any problems with durability? Sharpening?
I only ask because I am new to DPX, I've been carrying ESSE almost exclusively until now. I will try to add some pics

I've posted this pic a few times in other peoples threads, but this is from my latest excursion. I used the knife for all of the food prep and some battoning to get the fire started. At the end of the day the edge was still shaving sharp, and only light scratches in the coating.

Sheath is that ballistic nylon stuff but really well built. I have to say I prefer kydex and a couple tech locks. I will be having one made for the heft.

Niolox and Sleipner are both very much like D2. They hold an edge well, and will be a bit harder to sharpen than 1095. But they are good quality steels, and will also have a good bit more corrosion resistance than 1095 as well. I edc a HEST-F Triple Black, and I have edc-ed a HEST folder since they came out. A HEFT-4 MS is my go to small survival knife and has been for a few years now.

Very nice..... I was torn between the 4 and 6. Now that I like the 6 I am thinking about purchasing the 4 or the hest 2 assault. I haven't had much experience with D2 either. I have a few more camping try before the summer's done so I will see how the heft 6 holds up.
