Hey, I'm very new to the forum so please forgive me if I make any serious mistakes like misplacing this thread or so :) I'd like to share something I've been working on for last month. It's still work in progress, but even so. These are handles for three things in my new Naga (south-east asian dragon god) series. First is handle for a small knife, second is handle for a sword and third is handle for a ritual axe. All pieces are hand carved from A quality sandalwood, each taking between 70 and 100 hours of work. There is of course much work to do, handles will be further decorated with gold and precious stones inlay, blades will be carved etc. But I'm at the end of first (and most painstaking) stage I believe and I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I love it. I don't know what else to say. I'm speechless!

The beard, mouth, and teeth of those dragons... Just awesome!!! Great flow and sense of motion too. I can easily imagine that dragon coming alive and flying right out of that sword handle. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! You have a meticulous eye for detail. Can't wait to see these come to life.

That is incredible! Absolutely amazing work. What types of tools are you using-chisels, hand held rotary tool...? I can't wait to see those finished and mounted.

I use chisels of different sizes and shapes and two hammers, no rotary tools, I try to keep things simple :)

I could go on and on, I won't, You are an artisan of extra ordinary talent. I carve, you create life. When did you first begin carving?

Thats some awesome stuff, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing these finished.

I only started carving two months ago :)) But I spent whole two months studying with some of the world's best wood carvers in Indonesia, so it felt quite natural... However there is still long long way ahead of me, I need to get better in so many ways :)

Thank you all very much gentlemen, I don't think I deserve so many kind words. I'll try to post finished work as soon as it's ready :)

Those carvings are amazing. Looks like you were a great student! I'd love to go study with Indonesian carvers, must have been amazing.
I'll stay tuned for more.
