Curious about the popularity of the Calypso Jr, I looked at one at the store and noticed that it seemed like a big version of my tiny Dragonfly (even to the AUS-8 steel and the large choil).

It's a fun little knife (the Dragonfly), and I just wondered why it never made its appearance as a mini-Calypso? Or are there differences I failed to notice?

I also regard the Dragonfly as a "Calypso Jr".
I have 2 of them. One is stainless and the other is one of Bladeforun's special carbon fiber models.
It's strange, but I tend to carry either of these over the Calypso.

I think you`re right they do look very similar. The Dragonfly was out long before the Calypso hence the name difference,I guess. It`s a neat little knife. I have a little trouble flicking it due to it`s small size and my big hands but once it`s open it works quite well. It`s the only Spydie I have (until the Calypso Jr. Lightweight I`ll be ordering ASAP).

I've noticed the same thing! Another "family resemblance" I've noticed with my Spyderco's is that the now discontiuned SS "Hunter" model and the SS "Harpy" use the same frame. Only difference with the Harpy is that it has drying vent's cut into it and the back spacer has been ground down to allow room for the Harpy's blade tip, which also allow's for a larger lanyard hole. Jeeezzz...I gotta get out more!

"War to the knife and knife to the hilt"

I've got a growing knife collection (upwards of a dozen or so), and both of my daughters picked the Dragonfly as their favorite...even over other small knives.

I agree that the small size makes for a bit awkwardness in opening (compared to the Delica), and I hope the Calypso Jr, lightweight will handle that.

Funny thing about this line (Dragonfly and Calypso Jr), is that the blade shape and full flat grind reminds me of the tip of a chefs knife. If the blade angle were lower, say like on a skinner, the knife'd be like a folding cook's knife

I guess I feel different about this. In hand the Dragonfly is not nearly as good ergonomicly for me. More than that the grip is different. I sold the Dragonfly but kept the Calypso Jr. I could not call the Calypso Jr. a bigger Dragonfly.
