Dragonfly blade swap

So I tried taking a zdp 189 blade and putting it into a g10 dragonfly handle. Tried at first to put the lock bar that matched with the zdp into the g10 handles. That caused the lock bar to stick out over liner in the handle. Next i tried using the lock bar from the g10 with the zdp and That caused the blade to stick out over handles when closed. So I could hit the tip of the blade when it was closed. I was really hoping it would work out so that I could get some custom scales made but I guess not.

I am sorry to read that did not work out. That would have been a great combination. Perhaps there is a solution someone can offer?

One thing I would suggest is to look around for a Nishijin Dragonfly.

I did this swap several years ago. I also had to use the lock bar that came with the G10. The blade fit perfectly with no issues, only problem I had was getting the washers in there right, they are super thin! All I can suggest is to open it back up and make sure everything is positioned correctly because it should work.

I'll try it again tonight but I'm almost positive the lock bar wasn't sitting right. I did have problems getting the liner to sit right though had to put the screws in to bring it down into place.

I tried this with a Hap40 blade a few months ago and had the similar issues. G10 lockbar had a lot of play and the Hap40 lockbar stuck out too much. Just got used to the FRN and now it doesn't bother me.

I bought some scales from bladescales in g10 and his attention to detail is fantastic. When installing them on my Delica 4 it was a little tight on the bottom of the lockbar (the liner was touching the tiniest bit) and this caused the lockbar to not sit flush with the scales. I took it back apart and used some 300 sandpaper and ran it squarely across. Really it was hard to tell I had done anything until I put it back together and it was perfect.

Can you tell if the lockbar is touching the liner or binding somewhere that would be safe enough to modify?

I know this is an old thread, but since I used it for reference and had some similar experiences I thought I'd post my Dragonfly swap. I daily carry a full SE DF daily, and thought I would class it up a bit with some Pakkawood. I tried a simple blade swap, as well as blade/lock-bar swap, all with less than perfect results like those mentioned above. Then it dawned on me to change the spring as well, and voila. I ended up doing a full blade/lock-bar/spring swap, and now both knives fit and function perfectly.

Haha tried the same combo, zdp with green g10, about five years ago and failed miserably.
