Well, I got a nice Spyderco Dragonfly FRN about a week ago from a good friend. I figured I should at least post a review of it so here it is :)

I really like this knife. Like all Spyderco’s it grows on you the more you carry it. When I first got it I kept thinking “wow this is small”. I mean seriously, I thought it was closer in size to the Calypso Jr. It’s not. That’s totally fine though. It is a great EDC for the office worker (like me) as it doesn’t seem to scare anyone. If you choke up on the 50/50 choil the knife does feel bigger than it is. This knife cuts through stuff like butter. Since it’s a flat grind like the Calypso Jr, it is just crazy sharp. I have to watch flipping this thing around in my hand because I sometimes forget that even though it’s small it has a large bite.

I cannot do a “Spyder-Drop” with this knife. I don’t know if it’s because it’s too small or too light, or the blade is too tight. It could be a combo of all three for all I know. I can Spyder-Drop my Calypso Jr. with no problems.

This knife is really just too small for my hands. There is just not enough room to grip the knife while trying to open it with the Spyder hole. I pretty much have to use two hands to open it. I can however close it with one hand. I’m not saying I cannot open it with one hand because I can. It just takes so much that if I don’t get it all the way open on the first try that the blade will come back down and slice into my finger (which it has done). This is because of the fact that it’s so small that once the blade opens my fingers just automatically slide into the part where the blade closes because they have no where else to go. So my hand better not slip off the Spyder hole when opening it or I will eventually get a sliced finger. Mind you maybe I just have really large hands because I’m 6’1” tall and 250lbs.

It is all in all a really nice knife. I will probably just use it in the office area where I work and open small things with it. I would never want to be forced to used this in SD as I think my index finger would slip off of the choil and onto the blade. That would not be fun. I think I’d be better off with a Native or a Native III.

The Dragonfly is great for exactly what it’s designed to be… a good small knife.

It took a while but I finally got used to opening my Dragonfly one handed, without fear of cutting myself. It's the one knife I always keep at maximum sharpness at all times, with a nice pretty edge bevel. I use it for cutting things in public that would look a bit odd with larger blades, like loose threads or packing tape.

The dragonfly looks like a nice little knife but I'll go with a Native III too.

I can agree with you on that :D although I have no problems with my Dragonfly.
