Dragonfly SS Tattoo vs. Dragonfly2 FRN

I have a Dragonfly2 FRN and my fiancé likes it. She is interested in a small pocket clip knife like it. She spotted the Tattoo and fell in love with the looks. It looks like the FRN is a bit more functional with the handle texture and jimping (i think that's what its called on the blade). It also weighs half as much as the SS Tattoo. The SS Tattoo looks nice, but I'm afraid it will fall short function wise. I flat out asked her what one she liked better and she said she couldn't decide or even have an opinion either way until she held the Tattoo.

I'm going to get her a dragonfly for Valentines day. What are the thoughts of those who have handled them?

One other thing to consider is how she will carry the knife. I got my daughter the Tattoo Dragonfly and have noticed that when she wears it clipped in her pocket, it sticks out quite a bit. The frn and g10 models have a wire clip that allow them to ride lower in the pocket. All of them are great knives, so it's hard to wrong with any of them.

Pocket carry. She said the Delica was too big, but the weight was ok. Not as good as the FRN Dragonfly

If my wife "fell in love" with the looks of the Tattoo I would definitely buy her the Tattoo and not worry that the knife would somehow "fall short function wise".

Yeah... I'm into function first. I don't worry about looks as much. She isn't quite like that. I think it'll serve her well opening boxes and mail and such. This really put it in perspective that what I look for isn't exactly what she does.

If she likes the tattoo more, get the tattoo. It will still function fine and looks quite nice. I got my girlfriend a Ladybug tattoo and she loves it.

Get the Tattoo. If it caught her eye at first, she will be plenty happy to receive it. It is stereotypical, but if a girl doesn't like the way something looks, she will be less likely to carry it (not that I am not the same way about certain things). And, if it ends up being a "first" knife and not an "only" knife, there is no shortage of other handle materials out there that are more utilitarian.

It has been my experience that women really like the Dragonfly and the Native. If she wants something bigger later on, the Native would be my recommendation.

I've got the SS Dragonfly, I've had it for about 6 years, I love it, the SS scales make it a real work horse, the big little knife analogy is the best description for the Dragonfly.

Get her the Tattoo, shell be happy.
