Dragonfly Tattoo....no good for a user?

So some years back (don't remember exactly when). I told my wife that she should get a knife for when I'm not around to borrow one.

She agreed, we shopped around for a while and ended up settling on the Dragonfly Tattoo. It had the right size, good steel, good ergo's and (very important)...it was pretty.

Plus, the graphic was an "Etch" right? That means it's below the surface of the rest of the handle? So even if the colours wear off...you should still be able to see the graphic right?

Well....turns out...not so much.

This is the exact same Dragonfly after around 3-4 years of carry.

Now as you can see, lots of scratches, that's fine...that's what you get for a user knife with steel handles. She's been putting this in pockets, her purse, the waist of skirts....all sorts of ways to carry...even her bra strap some days I think.

But the fact that the graphic has completely disappeared? That's a total letdown. Looks to me like the graphic was just laquered on or something.

There's is no height difference where the graphic originally was.

Now we got a good bit of use out of it...and it's really pretty....but had I know this in advance.....I'd not have spent the money on it.

That is a real let down. Thanks for telling us. I was thinking of getting one for pocket carry. I think I'll pass on it.
You could contact David Martin here on Bladeforums. His wife does really good engraving. She could make this knife "purdy" again.

Yeah, for us too. We did expect the colours to wear off...]
considering the text on the website everywhere mentions etching into the handle (off the website)

It starts with a functional VG-10 blade and an all stainless steel handle. Then it's beautified with bright poly-chromatic dragonfly art etched into the handle

but that would just leave a nice graphic....

now it's just kind of...nothing. It was an expensive piece to buy over here too. Think it cost close to $150 to get over here. (It's cheaper now than back then though).

Hi LX_Emergency,
I'm sorry for your disappointment. I did a little research with our W&R crew and that's not a common issue. We cannot say that we've seen that before. Would you please send your wife's Tattoo Dragonfly into our W&R department for review? Please be sure to include your contact information and feel free to reference my post here on the forum. You can find all of the information you'll need to send it in here, http://www.spyderco.com/edge-u-cation/index.php?item=10.

Thank you!

Kristi

And this is why I will keep buying Spyderco^. Great Customer service!

My daughter loves the dragonfly tattoo I gifted her. Haven't noticed any wear on the etching when I sharpen it. But then hers stays in a purse. Great "little big knives"
Spyderco's customer service recently took care of me as well. Part of the reason I've bought 3 Spydies in the past week. Thanks to all the crew at Spyderco.

I bought my daughter the same knife about five years ago. It's either in her jeans or purse all the time and last time I sharpened it for her it still looked great. I really wasn't looking at the image but remember it still being there. I'll pay attention next time I see her.

Just a shout out to Kristi. It is great that you monitor this forum and can jump in when you see an issue Spyderco can help with.

EntrancedVermin,
My wife used to carry another brand of knife. She took one look at one of my Dragonflys and that was the last I saw of it. She loves those knives. Now she has two, one orange and one purple. She would love a PINK one (hint, hint) or some other girly color. The knife fits in her tiny hand, tiny purse, and tiny excuse for a pocket.

Another shout out to Kristi.
Spyderco recently took care of me (I was a dummy and lost a pocket clip screw), and was communicating with Christy in the outlet store. I had asked if she was TazKristy (not being observant enough to note the obvious spelling difference of course) and said that I was a big fan.
Got an email this morning from the TazKristy to say that the kind words had been passed along to her and she appreciated them.

These guys/gals really have their stuff together. What a great company.

Thank you gentlemen! We appreciate your kind words (both of us Kristi/Christy). :) We're very fortunate to be able to do what we do but it's always a pleasure to receive such kind words.

Make it a good weekend!

LX_Emergency,
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to make it right. We appreciate your understanding!

Kristi
