Which would you rather have, money not being an issue? I own a SE salt dfly, SE cricket , sage1 and g10 manbug. I have handled g10 dfly and love it. This will be for office edc or just my weekend jeans knife. I am intrigued by zdp because it should stay sharp for a long time for my needs (opening letters, flickin open, opening packages w new knives). I know g10 is probably overkill but it's easier on eyes and feels nicer. I also like the distinct snap when opening/closing. I like the lightweight of the zdp frn, the color and trying out exotic steel. Keep in mind as of right now, I have never sharpened a knife. G10 vg10 vs zdp frn- what say you? Please do not say buy both and do a swap lol

I have the G-10 and I absolutely love it, the VG-10 is very easy to sharpen. I have yet to try ZDP-189 but I think that may be my next purchase considering I have a lot of the other premium steels. I managed to pick up a LNIB g-10 dragonfly for $55, so they are out there and for a reasonable price. I would say get the G-10, you can always sell it and purchase the zdp-189 dragonfly if you don't like it. Nice avatar by the way.

If you have never sharpened a knife, I would go with the G-10 version. It will sharpen up easier. Otherwise when the ZDP does eventually lose it's edge, it's going to be a bear to get back to shaving sharp if you don't have the right tools.

Also get a Sharpmaker.

To make your choice even more difficult, have you considered the super blue sprint run knife? I just pre-ordered mine. I couldn't decide between the Orange FRN, the G10 or the ZDP. Seeing as I already had all those steels in other knives, the super blue sounded great! I think the color is awesome too, and I love my FRN knives.

I have looked into the SB. I am intrigued by it but I live in Florida and I wouldnt want to worry about having rust issues while carrying it. Its still an option though. I guess I should be asking Dfly g10 vg10 vs dfly frn in either zdp or SB. lol

I live in Miami and did a forced patina on my super blue clay3. No red rust problems here.

But I have 3 dragonfly's, the ZDP-189 is my favorite.

I had a G10 one, it was way to heavy for a tiny little knife, I now have a ZDP/FRN one and its one of my most carried knives (I also have a Salt one dyed green to match).

I say get one of the FRN ones, either VG-10 or ZDP. Note ZDP isn't stainless, it may be classified as stainless but it rusts pretty easily if you've never researched that before make sure you know what your getting before to shell out $75 on one.

IMO the FRN/VG-10 dragonfly 2 is the best value flowed by SE Salt and then the ZDP, if you don't mind the weight the G10 version is still a good knife but its more than twice the weight.

Also worth mentioning the G10 version CAN NOT be disassembeled even tho its got all torx screws. The lanyard tube is press fit in the scales and is required to be perfectly aligned to hold the spring at the correct position and under the proper tension.

I have the black FRN with VG-10 and the G-10 with VG-10. They are all great slicers, but the ZDP-189 holds an edge like you wouldn't believe.

IMO one of the best thing about the dragonfly is the weight. The G-10 while not too heavy. The tradeoff of weight vs the blade steel makes it a no brainer for me.

oooh.. that's though.
For sake for zdp, I think I'd probably rather choose that over the g10 model w/ vg-10

has anyone ever done a frankenfly g-10 with a zdp blade? i like full liners combined with zdp 189. that's a lot of knife in such a small package.

Black FRN with VG10 suits me great. Sensible combination of light weight (only 1.2 ounces) and a very decent steel thats easily sharpened and holds it edge quite well. The ZDP-189 version is a lightsaber when cutting, but believe me, be prepared for some tears and sweat when it comes time to sharpen that puppy. Unless you are really using this little knife hard every day, the VG10 will hold its edge admirably...

I have the G-10 version and do not like it at all becuase of the weight. Its a beautiful knife but just not for me. With that said, I have 5 FRN VG10/H1 versions and love it. I dont own a ZDP yet becuase i cant stand the british racing green.

My fav thing about the dfly is its size/weight to cutting ratio. The thing is just a light saber and it goes unnoticed. G10 is awesome (got one) but the zdp in the light package is to die for. I mostly only have light/urban cutting chores so that zdp goes the distance esp if you are a lazy sharpener. If you prefer a bit more heft then the g10 version is certainly not going to disappoint.
Cheers
Eric

FRN Dragonfly 1.2 oz
G-10 Dragonfly 2.0 oz

It is not more than twice the weight.

G10 manbug is thicker than frn dragonfly. May need to pull out my brothers g10 dfly tn to do some size and in pocket comparisons. The cricket has me spoiled for how thin a knife can be/feel

It is not more than twice the weight.

Maybe not technically, but in pocket it carries like it is. The main time I carry my dfly's (plural, I own several) is in my pajama pants pockets & gym shorts, both of which offer no support to knives clipped on the pocket, the FRN ones will easily ride in place without issue, the heavier G10/liners is so heavy it pulls my pockets down till the knife is sideways or even completely upside down and impossible to draw. It [the G10 one] may technically only be 180% (instead of the 200% I originally claimed) the weight of the FRN one but it carries (in light weight material pockets) like a much heavier knife.
