Sigh... Okay up front I'm sure you guys have known about these for years, but I mostly do swords not knives. I go to the Bladeshow every year however and this year I started playing with microtech otf autos. VERY COOL. Like them lots! Thought the prices were kind of rich and figured it was just a show thing. No such luck!!! Turns out that they are way expensive (for a guy that doesn't mind spending hundreds on swords but mostly carries a buck crosslock or a crkt pointguard)! Great just great... now I've got something ELSE to spend money on...

Well, go with it :D

I feel your pain...
I was looking for a new knife in the $200 price range and ended up ordering this just a couple of hours ago:

I've always had problems finding left-handed knives that I really like.
Ordering custom allowed me to be able to just find a knife that I liked,
now Greg gets to worry about making it all "backwards".
Nice guy, feel good about giving him my business.

I was lucky to score a new Scarab at a recent show for $400.00, although I found out the other dealers doing little business at the show were ticked-off at the guy who was selling them so reasonably. I've seen them on internet sales for $450 and up. No wonder. But it is very cool. Fun to spring on friends and family. In a good way, I mean .... like at a local cigar bar with folks you know (or who know you!), take an OTF out to nonchalantly cut the cigar tip off.

Autos are not illegal everywhere, in FL, they are considered to be very much like a regular folder, and it is perfectly legal to use them for general utility work, even if there are still a few cops who think of them differently.

Very cool! Did you get the double edged version?

You don't need to spend $400+ on a Scarab to have some double-action OTF fun. You can get an older Ultratech 6 for not much more than $200 these days. It doesn't have the S30V or HAIII, but it's still a nice knife. Or an UT6-II for less than $300. Or if size isn't important, a UTX-70 for less than $200.

Yeah but if you are going to get one you might as well go with the best... sigh...

Well, I saw Protech Godsons at a couple of gunshows in the Columbus, OH, area last summer for around $275.

Don't know what that looks like, will have to check it out...

I had a tough time justifying one Triton, but in the end, it was worth it. They are too much fun. I have the UT6 II and now the Scarab Executive is calling me.
