The pupose of draw filing is to............shape? Bevel?

I have belt grinders and such but doing it by hand seems to give me better results. It just takes some time. Though I haven't seen any tutorials on the subject, or that process. Any links for me to view? What kind of belt grinder do you need for it, and how should it be done? grit belt?

Draw filing subject covered a couple days ago, if you search forums you will surely find these threads...

When I first started with my Coote grinder making knives I almost completed them with the grinder. The better I train my eye to the things I was leaving the more I used hand work. I thought I had missed something. When talking to other knife makers who are much better than I am they said the same thing.
Does that make any sense or am I sounding like the present debates on Social Security?

I do it to get a smooth flat surface. You got some good advice in your other
thread on the subject. You can see something of the technique involved here.

With recurve blades, and hawkbills, will draw filing ruin in the shape?

I thought I'd ask before I go and learn the hard way....again.
