Drawing pens

Modern: Pentel Sign Pen... my all-time favorite.
Old school: Crow Quill Point, holder & bottle of ink.

All of the above <$20

Good paper is important!

The Microns, while nice, are fundamentally different from the Rotrings(at least the one's I've used). The Rotrings are like a thin tube of metal that use capillary action to "bleed" the ink onto the page, wheras the Microns are a felt-tip design. For precision drawing, I really like Rotrings:cool:
:edit: It's the Rapidographs that I have particular experience with: http://www.rotring.de/www.rotring.com/index.html

I'll second the suggestion of Rapidographs, I have a set and always go back to them after trying something new.

The Rotrings are expensive, and prone to clogging.

I own a full set, they gather dust in my "art supplies" pile.

The Microns, OTH, get USED.

Now the real question is why we all buy the pigma microns....

I've got an 05 in front of me, an 02 in my work stuff, and have gone through countless others. Runs me $5 a piece at the art store a couple km away. Didn't have any 01 or 005 in stock last trip...

Call me nuts, but I write small when I take notes. The 01 allows me to write a couple lines in a line of looseleaf. Also works great when I'm doing my art. The 005 are nice for shading work, adding a bit more detail than pencil alone offers, but aren't as durable as the 01s.

The thing I LOVE about em is that they don't smear on me like a normal pen when I'm writing left handed. nothing like writing a page of notes and having a black hand from it and a page of smeared writing. With the 02 tips I can write and still read what I wrote.
