Found something "very close" to my Dream Car.

Here's my list:

70 Chevelle convertible (not 69, not 71....70)
no "skunk stripes" in the paint job
Dark color exterior & interior
v8 engine (wouldn't mind a 396, but 350 or 307 is plenty for me)
Automatic transmission - column shift
Bench seat (rather than buckets)

I don't care whether it's "SS" or not.
Don't care whether there is Air Cond. or not.
Don't care about the mileage or body condition
Don't care about the tires/rims (happy to put on my own)

There was a cream-colored 71 hardtop for sale down the street here a few weeks back for $2995. Terribly tempting....great price for ~45k original miles, A/C, new interior, decent paint job... Had to let it go though....not a 70. :(

Well, this popped up in my inbox (darn those ebay reminders...:D) and nearly fits the bill. So tempting! Good thing I'm low on $$$...

Don't get me wrong...I'm happy with the Nova I have....but would love to pick up one of these someday....mostly for fun. :D

Oh, and there are lots of other cars I would love to have....(we've gone through this exercise here before)...but this one is on top...partly because of what it is...and partly because it's a car that's actually within my grasp.

Very nice. I seem to take a slightly different approach (I say this quite a lot...) to cars. I will buy something cheap with body lines and style I like and replace everything about the vehicle in order for it to suit my intentions. For example, my Camaro has had every single moving peioce of the power and driveline replaced since I bought it at 17. New suspension, rear end, drivetrain, transmission, engine, wheels/tires, frame improvements, shifter, and all kinds of other stuff that needed improvement. I am doing the same with an old Ford luxury car that is now classified as an old man's car.

My dream car planned... 1987 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas painted dark metallic blue with reproduction Jaguar style wire wheels in a slightly larger size (16-17") and slightly wider (from 6 to 8") with a conversion to a Chevy 350 and finally... an 8-71 Weiand blower stickign ouit of the hood with a hilborn scoop. I bet most of you didn't see that last part coming. I really want to build this car sometime soon.

LOL....yes, the blower on a lumped Jag would certainly catch some eyes (as well as ears). :D

I hope to build one someday, but with a 383/700R4 combo. Nearly bought one last year...nice dark maroon late 80's with excellent body and no engine. Would have been perfect...ready to lump. Oh well....

I do agree with your "approach" as well. In a perfect world, I'd like a car I could tinker with...upgrade...modify...etc., over time. I'd also like a "restored" car that would "take me back" to a different time and place.

Right now, my Nova is more the latter. This Chevelle would be more the latter.

But a lumped Jag would certainly be a lot of fun...and I really like the Vanden Plas options.

In high school, everyone drove muscle cars. Well, almost everyone. (I drove a Ford Courier - possibly a manifestation of latent masochism.) They were inexpensive, as was fuel, but I didn't really want one at the time.

Now I'm an adult, I want a muscle car, and I can no longer afford one. How does that work?

I've come to appreciate life's little ironies.
