I'd love to see the Rambler (best of the small SAKs IMHO, with the right tools and nothing more) with Alox scales.

That would be awesome.

They do offer the Classic in Alox. You give up the cap lifter and Phillips head screw driver tool, but the nail file screw driver will work as a flat Phillips driver (size P2).

But I hear what you are saying. No matter how many models and variations they offer, there is always some other combination that seems just perfect, but not offered. They should open up a custom-order department where you can build your own knife just exactly how you want it. For instance, I might order a Compact model, but replace the cork screw with the Phillips driver. It would also be great to have the option to pick an upgraded steel for the main blade.

I've got the Alox classic because I like the look...but I really need the cap lifter! Never know when you have to open a cold one...

Mine is a swisschamp without the pliers or fish scaler, I can't find a use for either.

One of mine would be an alox hiker, Like the strength of the farmer, but Like the small blade and Phillips on the hiker, the tweezers toothpick and pin come in handy too.

I'd opt for an 84mm Soldier with tweezers and toothpick, and a second blade instead of the awl .... and without a key ring.

1. Several years ago I used Swisschamp pliers and screwdriver to assemble aluminum channel picture frames to mount an entire photo exhibit. There are a fair number of small projects the pliers can handle, and it is also "super tweezers" to pull out thorns, slivers and other things that can use a good pinch. Although not my most used tool on the champ, it's still a good "better than nothing" to have when the occasion arises.

2. I used the fish scaler only once to clean fish, and it did a terrible job. The regular blade does better, although best of all is to use something else unless you have lots of time to clean the crud out of your SAK when finished. However, the scaling implement is also a ruler, which I have used often, and it is a good probe for dealing with inaccessible or nasty stuff :barf: you don't want to touch with your fingers. Also, it's a not bad pickle fork (wash thoroughly first :D).

The only Swisschamp implements I have never used are the small blade, which has been intentionally left for emergencies only, and the small screwdriver on the backspring. Many of the implements can be used for jobs other than their intended purpose. The ball point pen once came in handy as a lock pick.

This one did it for me. I have MANY SAKs, including several other customs, but this one has all the tools that I routinely need in as small a package as possible. The only improvement that I expect to make to it is to one day cut a pen slot in the Stayglow scales.

I would love an Alox scaled Rambler to go with it though....

I'd actually like a SAK with no knife blade at all. I carry a mini Griptilian anyway, so the SAK main blade is redundant for me. I would much rather it be another tool. Maybe a Tinker with scissors instead of blades would be neat. That would be a really good EDC combination.

Something like that might even be technically allowable on an Airliner, or close to it anyway. The awl would probably have to go. And someone might try to say the can opener is a small knife blade, but a Wenger-style can opener should pass.

Then I think you're looking for the Swiss Champ Plus (no pliers, but it does have the fish scaler). Also, @ $30 online,
it's a fantastic deal, compared to the regular Swiss Champ.

Alox two tier model with main blade, awl, bottle/can opener, scissors. Basically I have in mind a Vic Compact in alox without all the stuff on the back.

Recruit with sciccors instead of near-useless can opener.

Oh, and the flat-head nail-file can be used to pop the top on a cold one.

OH. My. God. i think i'm in love. that is EXACTLY what i've been looking for. Where did you get that, and how can i get one?

Bill AKA Scibeer made if for me out of a Champion and a Waiter. He calls it an "Abrasive Yo-Man"; basically an old Yeoman model with wood saw and metal file / saw added. I basically carry it with me everywhere, all the time. Far and away my favorite SAK.
