Where can i find a Dremel and how much is a good price? Also, is the Sears Craftsman version any good? Thanks!

Well if ya live in the USA, try Wal-Mart, Target, Lowes, or Home Depot. The best thing is to catch them on sale. Hope this helps.

I picked up a kit from Costco last month for $79(or was that $89

) It came with both the flex attachment and the cutting guide.

I paid $89.00 for mine. But seen it on sale for a little lower (like around $80.00). I think the Sears Craftsman version is the same thing. Only has a different name and label. From my experience, any of the Sears Rotary Tool attachments can be used with the Dremel also.

Hope this helps you.

I have the one made by ryobi. It was $48 with a case and 100 accessories at lowes when I got it. The dremel bits and everyhtng work well with it just make sure you get collets to fit the different bits(1/8"and 3/32").
Ryobi makes their own flex shaft to fit it, I think it was around $20 but I don't remember since I haven't bought one. I looked at everything there was and liked the ryobi best. The dremels are nice too, but the ryobi had more power(at least when I got it, the dremels might have been improved by now) and was a whole lot cheaper. It gives you 5 different speed settings between 8,000 and 28,000 rpm's.Check all the home improvement stores like Lowes, HQ, and Home Depot.

The Dremel is an excellent tool, but the variable speed model is a must. Single speed tools are not versatile enough. Dremel also has a tool exchange program in which you send them your old, worn-out Dremel, and they will send you a new one for about $36. Great deal! Call their toll-free number for information on this offer.

thanks for the tips! My parents, unfortunelty are less than thrilled at me for finding a new and potentially expensive hobby...knife making!! I got my Jantz kit today, but we dont have any epoxy, so I cant start it yet. they said no to the dremel too until later on, so I have to do everything by hand, which will take a while. I'll keep working throught the Jantz kits and hopefully will get a dremel, polishing wheels and the works sometime soon.

Thats the way to go. Fancy tools make it easier but you can do it without them. I started the same way and have been adding to my collection of tools every year. Just put some money aside every once in a while and you should be able to get yourself a good tool that will last at least once a year depending on how much you save up. My parents don't let me spend a bunch of money at once. But they don't mind it if every once in awhile I buy something they know I'm going to use and they know that I'm getting something worth the money. It helps alot if they are into woodworking or something like that and understand why you want to make knives, and know your not going to make 2 or 3 then quit.
