I had a ZT0801 sent to me to do some acid etch and stonewash on the blade since it had been scratched up by the owner's Edge Pro. I asked him if he was willing to be the guinea pig for some titanium anodizing, as I don't have a knife with titanium scales. He agreed, and here's what I came up with, along with some extra cosmetic adjustments to make the knife as a whole come together better than stock black hardware:

  • blade, pivot, screws, back spacers, and clip acid etched and stone washed
  • scales anodized blue and purple with orange peel finish on the high spots, satin finis in the grooves
  • pivot and blade polished at contact areas
  • bearings saturated with Nano Oil
  • blade coated with Eezox for protection
  • blade sharpened to 10µ (1000grit EP stone)

I didn't get the lighting adjusted right, so the images are lighter than how the knife appears in person.

There is one sad casualty in this project -- or rather there will be. I want a 0801, so I'll be selling my custom anodized 940 soon to fund one of these beauties!

Thanks! I learned from this that the blue/purple shows fingerprints like no other. Folks with oily skin (like me) should avoid getting this color because the oils in our skin also change the color spectrum being reflected. I had to handle the knife with gloves because it looked like I wasn't getting an evenly anodized layer. I will most likely go for a steampunk-inspired color when I get mine, as the bronze/brass/gold colors supposedly [ /I] don't show fingerprints as much.
