Dressing up a sheath.

I have a sheath that came with my Fiddleback Nessie, and it was made by JRE Industries. It is very nice but extremely plain. It doesn't really go with the Desert Ironwood handles on the Nessie, so I am looking for suggestions for easy ways to dress up the sheath. I really like the hammered look, but I think that has to be done before the sheath is assembled, right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once a leather sheath has been fully assembled, stitched and finished, it is not a good idea to try any further embellishment involving any stamp or hammer work. A total color change would be possible, or some broder decoration using a groover would be possible, but my advice is to leave it as is and maybe in the future consider a custom sheath for your knife.

Afraid your stuck pretty much with what you got. Embellishments are done prior to assembly and finishing. You would be better off both time wise and money wise to buy another sheath with the embellishments you want and keep that one for work chores.Dave:)

Didn't mean a replay Paul I guess we were typing at the same time.We are doing the stereo thing bud.Dave:D

Whats that I hear about "Great minds thinking alike"?? ;)

I was thinking about the only things that can be done are on the line of surface marking, ie Sharpie, and/or cut lines and figures. Impacting the surface will distort the leather and make for an ill fitting sheath.

With respect to my learned colleagues - while it is usually easier to tool first it doesn't have to be done before construction - the simple line carving on these (and several others I've made) was all done after construction..
On this one I edge stamped pre-construction then decide to add the carving afterward....

Using a groover would be the easiest way to add a little decoration.

Is it the basic JRE pouch sheath with the rivets like this one?
