I would like to affix primitive points and blades to antler material, but have heard of varying methods to prepare the dried gut for use.

Which way is better or right:

Dipping the gut in water and tying/wrapping then coating with pine pitch.

OR

Dipping the wet gut into hide glue then tying/wrapping and then coating with pine pitch.

OR?.......

You probably want to pull the shit out of the gut first. My understanding is that then you stretch the gut out into a string to wrap stuff. And harden it over a fire.

You can also use strips of rawhide to wrap things, done that, takes about a day or two to harden up, although you could probably force it over a fire.

You can also use threads of deer sinew, which are hammered out of the back leg tendon of a deer. Chew the bits up with saliva, it forms a natural glue, then wrap them around your work; no tying required. Takes about 24 hours to dry thoroughly.

Then of course there is artificial sinew, comes in a big roll, seems to be waxed, pretty useful stuff. I've used it for whipping the ends and splices on natural rope.

Do you mean stretch it when it's dry then dip according to one of the above methods or do you mean, dip in one of the methods, then stretch it and use?

If it were me, I'd try to get some leg sinew. If you need links let me know.
You'll get the sinew dry then puond it and pull into smaller strands, then prep your hide glue and put the sinew in. Once soaked and pliable ,wrap, let dry thoughly, then pitch. IMO

Stretch the gut when it's wet and raw, wrap it around whatever, and tie it off. Then let it dry.
