How To Drill 440c Steel

I have been using DeWalt bits from my local hardware store. Started off with titanium, then to cobalt bits, still no progress. No metal shavings, bits just spin on tang. What do I need to do.
Thanks.

Is it a finished blade that has been through heat treat?
Sounds like blade needs to be annealed so it can be drilled.

If it has already been heat treated use a carbide bit.
Get some good drill bits from an industrial supplier, they are so worth the investment.

Or if not heat treated then make sure to use very low RPM's - I made the mistake of drilling at higher speeds at first with SS and had same result- work hardened then bit just spun without going in. Low RPM and higher feed rate made a world of difference!

If it's soft, drillco nitro gold, Morse marxman, or Norseman viking twist drills.
If it's hard you'll need something along the line of MA Ford hirocs or square die drills.

Good tooling seems expensive, but will end up being far cheaper. A $3 drillco twist drill will outlast probably a dozen $1.50 hardware store drills
