I have this German entry level drill press , it had a problem of sometimes not turning on after a bit of work and changing the bit, now it turned on for 5 seconds and went off by itself and didnt turn on after at all. So first of all what can be the issue if someone had a similar problem , how can I check what could be the problem , whats this part even called so I can look around and change it maybe?
I would really appreciate your knowledge
Thanks
Nick

I have the same kind of drill press there is a small switch that checks if the lid that covers the belt is open or closed. The switch usually works quite badly so I would recommend to either tape the switch closed or wiring it so that it bypasses the switch.

Edit:
I made a video showing in a bit more detail

OT but that's not a German drill press. It's made in China.
yes, it is made in China and imported to Germany, as well as other tools of many other well-known brands.

I have the exact same drill for 20 years, never had any problems, check the pulley compartment closing switch if you don't solve the problem then replace the main switch.

I have a simular one with the same problem. I just bypassed the switch and use a light switch as an on/off

Thanks , I knew that switch but didnt realize that could be the issue , added a bit of hot glue on the plastic and so far works as new , gonna see in future work how it does.

Yeah I understand it was made in China and probably assembled in Germany to have the made in there mark. The chuck is cheap china and the switch is cheap turkey made.

Speaking about chucks I want to put on a precise one , which one would you guys recommend ? My friend who is a machinist recommended to get a jackobs chuck but dont know where to buy other then ebay and also can anyone recommend what type I need for this drill press? as I saw there are quite a few types on jackobs site
THanks

A Jacobs chuck is a chuck that uses a key to tighten the jaws. There are two basic types of chucks - Jacobs (uses a key) and Keyless. Any industrial supplier will carry both types (or ebay).
You need to look in the manual for your drill press and see what the quill/arbor size/type is. Then, order a Jacobs chuck in that size.
