hey guys i'm looking for a new little drill press. the one i have is pretty big and i'm afraid of the table tilting when i try to drill stuff straight. bad news
so i figure i could set up a small one with some big ol paralells like IG has, keep thing straight and sturdy. and use the big press for my tapmatic only.
so i searched around and found these two. they seem pretty much the same kind of deal. the one from Wholesale tool seems to be identical to the one IG uses, which works well. but its also more expensive. doesn't seem like a big difference between the two though

thing is i can drive to pick up the 60 dollar WTtool drill
but even with 9 bucks shipping the 40 dollar harbor freight is still better price

so whats the difference??? thanks guys i appreciate the help

Hi Mike,

I don't see any links to the two drill presses you're talking about but I have a used 8" Craftsman you could probably talk me out of :D

GrassHoppa, I also took it apart and retapped all the set screw holes and put larger ones in place of the ones that came with it. ;)

yeah thats true IG. but that shouldn't be too hard.
just can't see much difference between the two presses. other than how they look. seems like the specs are alomst identical.

how big is the shiping box? if you can find out if the SC store front has it, I could pick it up and bring it up here. you could get it from me in Bellingham, ma... I have a home there as well as up here, and go there about every week

thanks man! i appreciate the offer. might take ya up on it if i get some advice towards it. will ya be making it to IG's hammerin?

dont even know the date it is.. my job(supproting two households) keeps me out and busy as hell...

I have a generic GNC press with a laser guide that i think i paid about 100$ for....forks like a charm and was a home depot purchase. The laser sight is perfect once you get it dialed in....

I dont think you can go wrong with a press....even the cheapest seem to be able to drill straight holes from what I have found....

You know HF has a version of the same drill press that has a keyless chuck. The pic on the web shows a different handle but mine looks like the one on the link you posted only the chuck is different. It's usually about $10 more than the keyed version. I use mine for small work and for drilling holes in sheaths. It even has a work light built in.

I also have the 12 speed press and I added a keyless chuck (money well spent in my book). I am happy with both choices.
